The Strange Briefs of the Boston Globe

With some brief comments to follow each:

"Body of male found in Charles River

A body was found in the Charles River yesterday morning, about 30 feet offshore near the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge, authorities said. The body was reported at about 11:35 a.m. Jake Wark, Suffolk district attorney's office spokesman, said the body was of a white male believed to be in his 40s. No obvious signs of trauma were found. An autopsy is expected this weekend, he said (Boston Globe)."

We don't even get a name? I hope they don't forget
him.

"Mass. teen in coma; injuries puzzle police

A Massachusetts teenager is in a coma in a Canadian hospital after suffering critical injuries of an unknown nature in the Niagara Falls area. David Shell, a 19-year-old from the Springfield area, was found behind a mall. Shell had a broken back, cracked skull, and collapsed lungs, said Sergeant Dave Sawyer of the Niagara Regional Police Service. Shell was rushed to Hamilton General Hospital, where he was in serious but stable condition. Police know little about Shell's injuries, but they do not suspect foul play, Sawyer said. Sawyer said Shell arrived alone in the Niagara Falls area last Sunday. Police believe he was walking in the rural area between Niagara Falls and Welland and at some point received a ride in a silver pickup. He was then dropped off at a local restaurant. Shell was last seen walking away from the restaurant with an unidentified woman. He was found injured the next morning (Boston Globe)."

But NO FOUL PLAY? WTF?!

I'll bet if his name was
Natalee Holloway he would be all over the news!

So what happened? Pimp rough him up? Wife's husband?

Who would give him a beating like that?

"Trial to start in TV reporter assault case

The man accused of severely beating Channel 7 sports reporter Julie Donaldson will face charges of assault and battery in a trial to start Sept. 8, a Boston Municipal Court judge ruled yesterday. Prosecutors decided to drop two fugitive charges against Ivan Lattimore, 32, who is being held without bail (Boston Globe)."

The obvious question here is why would you beat on this
beauty?

Sorry,
not good enough!

"SJC: state can take prisoner money as punishment

The state's highest court has ruled that prison officials are allowed to take money from a prisoner's personal account as punishment. The practice by the Department of Correction was protested by prisoner Dennis Ciampi, who was caught by a guard with a bottle of "home brew" alcohol in 2002. He was later ordered to pay $144 to cover the cost of 12 months of testing him for drugs and alcohol. The department took the money out of his prison account. Ciampi took the Department to court, and a lower court judge ruled that the state had exceeded its authority when it took the money. The Supreme Judicial Court said yesterday the state has broad authority to maintain order in prisons. It said taking the money as restitution didn't violate Ciampi's property rights (AP)."

Isn't that some sort of double jeopardy or something?

Paying for your own imprisonment?

Nothing like a PRISON SHAKEDOWN when you are HURTING for FUNDS, huh?

And you wonder why these guys recede?

They look at the LEGAL LOOTERS of STATE GOVERNMENT and they can SMELL the HYPOCRISY!!!!
