"US says outbreak appears to be over; Salmonella cases drop to normal by early August" by Associated Press | August 29, 2008
WASHINGTON - The federal government said yesterday the salmonella outbreak that sickened at least 1,440 people appears to be over, but its ultimate source may never be known, partly because of shortcomings in the nation's food safety system.
"None of us can provide a cast-iron guarantee that salmonella Saintpaul will not reemerge," said Dr. David Acheson, the FDA's food safety chief. "We have not identified the total source of this."
Why do the words "worthless agency" creep into my head at this point?
