Gas Pump Extraction

Very, very slowly, Americans.

It can always go back the other way in a seconds notice!

"Mass. drivers are feeling a little less pain at the pumps

Maybe you don't have to scrap that SUV just yet.

The average price of gasoline in Massachusetts dropped 6 cents a gallon in the past week, to about $3.90, and drivers are paying 19 cents less a gallon than three weeks ago, according to the latest weekly survey by AAA of Southern New England. Not enough to make a leisurely drive regain its appeal, but still a welcome trend.

And the pain at the pump could continue to ease, said Art Kinsman, AAA Southern New England's spokesman.

"I wouldn't be surprised to see an average price of $3.75 by Labor Day," Kinsman said. He based the prediction, in part, on the dropping price of crude oil and the diminishing likelihood that Tropical Storm Edouard would get close enough to take out any oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.

Yesterday, the price of crude was down $3.69 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, closing at $121.41 a barrel...."

Traditionally, prices sky before Labor day, so we shall see.
