The Boston Globe's Business Section Lies of the Day

(Blog author just shaking his head in incredulity)

"Consumer confidence rises in August" by Bloomberg News | August 16, 2008

Yup,
we are all beaming about the economy now.

Sigh!

WASHINGTON - Confidence among American consumers gained in August and manufacturing in New York grew the most since January as a slide in gasoline, oil, metals, and grain prices eased cost pressures on households and companies.

So manufacturing grew in NY; there are 49 other
states!

I'm sick of the deceptions!!!

Gasoline, copper, and corn prices have retreated since the start of last month, diminishing some of the threat to the economy from elevated commodity costs. Demand for autos increased for a third month, reflecting a continued rebound.

Demand for autos increased, huh?

Sigh.

"Retail sales fall in July on drop in new car sales" by Bloomberg News | August 14, 2008

WASHINGTON - Sales at US retailers dropped in July for the first time in five months as record gasoline prices and tighter credit reduced automobile purchases.
"

So WHAT is with the OUTRIGHT LYING, AmeriKan MSM?

Gains elsewhere signal demand from overseas continued to boost orders.

Translation: AmeriKa is becoming a world supplier of cheap goods while our country collapses into financial ruin.

Either that, or we just sold a whole bunch of military crap.

more--"

But there's no need to fear, wonder guv is here!

"Millennium plans to hire 100 to 200 by year-end

Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc., the Cambridge biotech bought by Takeda Pharmaceutical three months ago, plans to hire 100 to 200 workers by year-end, mostly in Massachusetts, said Stephen Gansler, senior vice president of human resources. Millennium, which markets the cancer treatment Velcade, currently has about 1,000 employees, including 850 in Massachusetts (Boston Globe)."

I wonder how much of a cut they are getting from the stae's billion-dollar giveaway.

Yeah, that will replace the "nearly 3,000 jobs [shed] in
July" while adding to the income disparities around here!

"In Massachusetts, growing biotechnology, technology, and financial services sectors are competing for highly skilled workers, often in short supply, and paying high salaries to get them. The
result is not only a wider gap between rich and poor, but additional pressure on those at the bottom."

Yup, GREAT SOLUTION for our economic woes!!!!

Type "biotech, billion" into my blog search and see what you get.

Thanks, guv!!!
