One fact I have always been uncomfortable with is the basis for the holiday being the subsequent slaughtering of the native peoples who helped the European settlers survive that first winter (at least, in its mythical form; Thanksgiving actually conceived during Civil War to divert minds). There is also the sheer gluttony and greed of the holiday while so many in our world are starving (even here at home!)
And while not investing much faith and credibility in things like this, the passage has always bothered me:
"Century 1, Quatrain 50
From the three water signs will be born a man
who will celebrate Thursday as his feast day.
His renown, praise, rule and power will grow
on land and sea, bringing trouble to the East
Well, you know whom I think that is and he sure is fulfilling prophecy!
Just one more task to perform.
Here is another view, and he's right: Thanksgiving
Update (I share the blogger's sentiments):
"In honor of the cluelessness around us, and in recognition of the day when we celebrate our genocide against the people who lived in North America before it was "discovered", I've made a list of all the things that we -- as politically aware Americans -- have to be thankful for today:
Go see them HERE.
