Musharaff Negotiating Exit

Don't pay attention to that man behind the headline, er, curtain!!!!

"Continuing negotiations on how Musharraf should exit

"Musharraf vows to face impeachment charges; Politicians say bravura mode is a last stand" by Jane Perlez, New York Times News Service | August 16, 2008

Sigh!

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - President Pervez Musharraf fought back yesterday against politicians who asserted he would resign rather than face impeachment charges, saying through his chief political supporter that he would challenge the charges when they were brought to the parliament.

Oooookay!

Politicians across all parties, however, characterized the public insistence by Musharraf, a former military man, as a kind of last stand, a bravura performance that could not be maintained under the political reality that almost all of his support has evaporated.

If Musharraf did not step down voluntarily very soon, the man who succeeded him as army chief last year, General Ishfaq Parvez Kayani, would quietly make it clear he had to leave, two senior Pakistani figures, who declined to be named because of the sensitivity of the situation, said.

The army, which remains the most revered institution in Pakistan, did not want impeachment proceedings to begin, fearing it would tarnish the institution, several politicians said.

I find that hard to believe with the judges and lawyers unhappy, as well as the FATA folk.

I also consider the MSM sourcing as well as the connections. The Army guy is OUR GUY!!!!

The decision not to announce a date for the presentation of charges was apparently designed to leave the door open for continuing negotiations on how Musharraf should exit, and the terms of immunity from prosecution that he is seeking.

Why do war criminals always get immunity?

Musharraf has indicated that if he steps down he would like to stay in Pakistan, people familiar with the exit negotiations said. But because of the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Pakistan and the difficulty of protecting him against Islamic militants, who have tried to assassinate him at least twice before, a former member of the president's Cabinet said yesterday that he believed Musharraf would go into exile with a promise that he could return to Pakistan after a certain period.

Funny how the "militants" never got him, but nailed Bhutto, huh?

Musharraf served as both president and chief of the army from October 1999 until last November. He staged a coup against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1999. Sharif, is now the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-N the minority partner in the coalition government and the chief instigator of the effort to impeach the president.

Pfffft! What is with the BIAS? Is it because Mushy is our friend?

Yeah, Sharif is a "troublemaker" like all the folks in America calling for impeachment, right, agenda-pushing press?

Furthermore, why was all the political BS shoveled at us, BG, while you IGNORED THIS?

Of course, we KNOW WHY!!!!

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistan's top civilian security official vowed Friday to "wipe out" Islamic militants in a volatile tribal region where the government says more than 460 insurgents and 22 troops have died in 10 days of fighting.

Interior Ministry chief Rehman Malik said Pakistani intelligence have reports that about 3,000 armed militants are present in the northwestern region of Bajur, which borders Afghanistan. He said they included Pakistanis, Afghan Taliban and Central Asians.

"We will wipe them out," Malik told a news conference in Peshawar. "We will not surrender before them."

You mean, like, off the map?

I don't hear any criticism spewing forth from my Zionist War Daily (oh, right, they censored this story and didn't report it).

Pakistani army helicopter gunships and jets have been pounding militant positions in Bajur since the fighting broke out Aug. 6 when scores of insurgents attacked a military outpost. Alongside Malik at a news conference, provincial Gov. Owais Ahmed Ghani said some 219,000 residents have been displaced by the fighting in Bajur and promised to provide them food and shelter.

Oh! ANOTHER REASON to keep the story quiet and serve the AmeriKan public (and world) political bullshit.
