"Al-CIA-Duh" Attacks China Again

Why do I smell a rat, readers?

"Attack in West China Kills 3 Security Officers" by Edward Wong

BEIJING — Three security officers were killed and one wounded in a stabbing attack on Tuesday at a road checkpoint near Kashgar, an ancient Silk Road oasis town in the far west of China, according to Xinhua, the state news agency.

Xinhua did not provide any further details of the attack on Tuesday, and no group immediately claimed responsibility. It is unclear whether the attacks are related and part of a broader pattern, or whether the assailants were acting alone.

After the deadliest of the assaults, the first one in Kashgar, officials said they believed that the two attackers were linked to a group that the Chinese call the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, or ETIM, which supposedly advocates an independent state in Xinjiang. The group calls itself the Turkestan Islamic Party, or TIP, according to terrorism experts outside China.

Some outside scholars of Xinjiang say they doubt whether ETIM really exists, saying that the Chinese government could be manufacturing or hyping the threat to justify repressive policies against the Uighurs in Xinjiang.
