Occupation Iraq: The Peace of the Surge

This is what is important to me:

"a US air strike killed four members of a family... [a] man, his wife, and two of their children."

"
an American helicopter fired missiles into a home... the Americans called in an airstrike that killed Mr. Zidan, his wife and three children, all under 10 years old."

Sniiiff, ah!

The sweet s***stink of MASS-MURDERING "liberation!"

"4 soldiers are killed by roadside explosions; US strike killed 4 in family, Iraq says" by Ernesto Londono, Washington Post | June 26, 2008

BAGHDAD - Four US soldiers died in roadside bombings Tuesday and yesterday, the US military said, bringing to 10 the number of Americans killed in Iraq since Monday.

Three US soldiers and an interpreter were killed in a roadside bombing late Tuesday night in Nineveh Province, a military statement said. In recent weeks US and Iraqi forces have stepped up operations against area insurgents.

An American soldier was killed in eastern Baghdad yesterday morning by an armor-piercing roadside bomb, the US military said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Iraqi officials said that a US air strike killed four members of a family north of Baghdad shortly after midnight yesterday.

Iraqi and US officials provided conflicting accounts of the event. Captain Ahmed al-Azwawi, a police official in Samra, a village about seven miles south of Tikrit, said US troops were in the area when a man fired shots in the air. Azwawi said the man, who sold propane gas for a living, thought thieves were in the vicinity. US soldiers then called in an air strike, Azwawi said, killing the man, his wife, and two of their children.

The US military said that soldiers carried out the air strike after ground troops were shot at during an operation targeting Al Qaeda in Iraq.

So it was MURDER then!

As readers of this blog know, I am sick of the U.S.' lying military!

An armed man was seen walking toward a group of buildings, the military said. They cordoned off the area and asked him to come out, the statement said. When he refused to comply, the military said, soldiers "perceived hostile intent from the armed man and called for supporting aircraft to engage the building."

The man, described as a member of Al Qaeda in Iraq, was killed, the military said. The statement did not address the reported deaths of the woman and children but said four women inside the building sustained minor injuries.

Later yesterday morning, US troops in Baghdad killed three men who shot at them near Baghdad Airport, the military said. The soldiers were in a parked armored car when men in a moving vehicle shot at them. US soldiers returned fire, the military said. The car slammed into a wall and burst into flames, the military said, killing its three occupants."

This sounds like a CHECKPOINT KILLING -- with the "we were shot at" excuse offered up as JUSTIFICATION!!!

I lost the link because of the crap tools, but here is an interesting excerpt, 'eh?

"3 U.S. Soldiers Killed by Bomb in Iraq" by Richard A. Oppel Jr.

BAGHDAD — Mosul’s most fearsome guerrillas have been pursued by U.S. special operations forces operating in secret rather than Iraqi troops.

The attack on the soldiers Tuesday night followed a bomb that exploded at a Mosul police station earlier in the day, killing a police officer and a boy.

On Wednesday morning, the American military command released a statement [that] said the blast had been caused by a car bomb and carried out by Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia, the largely homegrown Sunni insurgent group. The statement offered no explanation of why the military believed Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia had been responsible for the attack, and not any of the other Sunni extremist and pro-Saddam groups that still operate in the city."

That's an ODD THING for the New York Times to print.

Did the reporters ask the Pentagon for proof for a change?

Or does the NYT KNOW WHAT WE KNOW?

Oh, and it looks like I was RIGHT about that CHECKPOINT KILLING!

"8 Civilians Killed in 2 Disputed Attacks, Iraq Says" by Richard A. Oppel Jr. and RIYADH MUHAMMAD

BAGHDAD — American soldiers fatally shot three Iraqi bank employees Wednesday as their car passed a convoy near Baghdad International Airport, according to an Interior Ministry official and Yarmouk Hospital, where the bodies were brought.

The attack was one of two bloody episodes on Wednesday in which the American military and Iraqi officials offered sharply different accounts of what had happened.

Iraqi authorities said at least eight civilians had been killed by American soldiers. American military officials said that in each case they opened fire after coming under attack, and that they were unaware of any civilian deaths.

Gotta love that mass-murdering U.S. military, huh?

We never kill anyone!!!!

In the shooting near the Baghdad Airpor, the attack left bullet holes in two of the convoy vehicles, the military said, and a weapon was found in the car, though the statement did not say whether the holes matched the caliber of that weapon.

Hours earlier, an American helicopter fired missiles into a home near Tikrit, killing a family of five, local officials and a relative said.

The episode began when Afar Ahmed Zidan thought he heard thieves prowling near his home in the darkness, a cousin, Hussain al-Azawi, said. Mr. Zidan went outside and fired at them, Mr. Azawi said.

But the men in the darkness turned out to be American infantrymen conducting a search, Mr. Azawi said. They returned fire, wounding Mr. Zidan, who rushed inside and frantically called his cousin to alert him to what had happened, Mr. Azawi said. Then the Americans called in an airstrike that killed Mr. Zidan, his wife and three children, all under 10 years old, Mr. Azawi said.

“The Americans shot two rockets into the house,” he said.

The American military confirmed an airstrike had taken place, but said an “Al Qaeda terrorist” had fired at the service members. Soldiers surrounded the building where the man was hiding and called for him to come out, the military said, but after perceiving “hostile intent,” they called in the airstrike.

American soldiers and Iraqi police determined that the man had been killed but did not find other victims, the military said. Four women in a neighboring building “sustained only minor injuries,” the military said.

The disputed killings followed a bloody day for American troops elsewhere in Iraq.

Aaaah, who gives a fuck at this point; American people don't seem to give a shit, so why should I?

And here is TODAY'S UPDATE!!!

"Dozens Dead in 2 Iraq Bombings"

BAGHDAD (AP) -- A suicide bomber struck Thursday inside a municipal building west of Baghdad, killing at least 20 people at a meeting of tribal sheiks opposed to al-Qaida, police said. The U.S. confirmed American casualties but gave no further details.

Another 18 people were killed and about 60 wounded in a car bombing near a government headquarters in the northern city of Mosul, officials said. The attacks Thursday were part of a spike in violence in Iraq after weeks of relative calm.

American authorities said they suspected al-Qaida in Iraq was behind the attack. U.S. and Iraqi troops rushed to the bombing site and sealed off the area. The attack in Karmah occurred only days before U.S. troops are to hand over security responsibility for Anbar to the Iraqis.

And CUI BONO?!

Then we might have to COME HOME, huh?

And F*** "Al-CIA-Duh," 'kay?

Also Thursday, American troops killed two suspected al-Qaida militants and captured 15, including two Egyptians, in raids in central and northern Iraq, the U.S. military said.

The two extremists were killed in Sharqat, about 135 miles north of Baghdad, after they refused to surrender to U.S. troops who had surrounded the building where the pair had taken refuge, the U.S. said in a statement.

One of the dead was identified as a militant cell leader who was the target of the raid, the U.S. said. Three people were taken into custody.

The two Egyptians were detained in Abu Ghraib on the western edge of Baghdad for allegedly helping mount suicide attacks in the area, the U.S. said. A third person was seized near Abu Ghraib for allegedly providing weapons and suicide vests to Sunni militants.

The other arrests occurred during raids west of Sinjar in northern Iraq, Mosul and the Bijar area between Mosul and Baghdad, the military said."
