Still Oppressing the Red Man

Not a good deal for the Native Americans, the arriving Europeans, was it?

Man, those history books.... glorifying genocide.

And why does the current world stage analogy make me think Palestine?

"3 sentenced in R.I. smoke shop raid; Tribal leader gets community service for '03 altercation" by Eric Tucker, Associated Press | June 20, 2008

PROVIDENCE - The leader of the Narragansett Indian Tribe was ordered yesterday to perform 150 hours of community service for participating in a violent scuffle with state troopers during a 2003 raid on a tribal smoke shop....

The defendants were convicted in April of either disorderly conduct or simple assault. Four other tribe members were acquitted. The men were arrested when police raided a tribal shop in Charlestown that was selling cigarettes without collecting state taxes. The raid, carried out in the early afternoon, turned violent after a few dozen officers - some with dogs - poured onto the smoke shop parking lot....

Was this really necessary for AVOIDING TAXES?

So when do the Cayman Islands get raided with dogs?

Or is this just to pay the politicians more?

Superior Court Judge Susan McGuirl said it was remarkable there weren't more serious injuries given the number of officers at the raid, the women and children there, and the inflamed passions on both sides:

"This incident never should have happened...."

And why has it, judge (Sig Heil)?

The defendants told McGuirl they regretted the confrontation, but stopped short of apologizing for their actions.

Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas told reporters outside court:

"It is what it is. We thought the law was on our side."

It probably is, chief, but there is no more law in AmeriKa!

Arbitrary enforcement combined with criminal stewardship has destroyed the 'law."

Figure you guys would be used to it by now. Nothing ever changes, huh?

Hiawatha Brown, a third defendant, also received probation and was ordered to undergo anger management counseling:

"We're going nowhere, the state's going nowhere. So to better the lives of everyone, we need to put this behind us, move forward."

And the Red Man is still more forgiving than a 'murkn could ever be.

I'm ashamed of my nation and government -- for now and then.

And I'm as mad as hell I was lied to, too!!!!
