Meanwhile, angry residents in Hurriyah blamed Americans for the bombing and demanded the Mahdi Army be given back control of the district.

A school principal, who declined to identify himself:

"All the time the Mahdi Army was in charge of Hurriyah we enjoyed the peace."

Hamdallah Rikabi, a spokesman for the Sadr movement in western Baghdad, also blamed Americans:

"The people in Hurriyah told us that the explosion took place just after the US forces left the scene. So we think they are responsible."

Naw, U.S. ain't ever responsible for nuthin'!
