Celtic Letters

I'm not the only guy bothered by the sports on the front page!

"Game over? Finally?"

"NOW MAY we expect the Globe to start putting real, hard news on page one instead of wasting so much space on pro sports?

Honestly, looking over the past year's front pages, one would surmise that Boston is so isolated from the rest of the world, and so dull, boring, uninteresting, and utterly quiet that nothing ever happens here, not even bad things (except in Dorchester).

Except now we will start getting the Red Sox, just watch!

"'08 Celtics deserved more respect"

"THE JUNE 19 Boston Globe front page was an embarrassment. The 2008 Boston Celtics had just completed a historic season and championship, and this was their day in the sun, with a parade scheduled through the city. So who did the Globe place in a big photo above the fold on page one? Larry Bird. For goodness sake, what were you thinking?"

Nope, game not over quiet yet

"No Bronx cheer here"

"A sporting event is the most dramatic entertainment event that can happen. Can an opera, play, or movie make millions of people hang by a thread at the same given moment?"

"Lessons for all from coast to coast"

"This was no ordinary competition. This was so much more. Boys became men, and men became kings. Tonight, we are all Celtics, for no matter where you come from, or who you support, balance was restored to the universe, and right triumphed over wrong....

Do not forget the lessons of tonight. Do not forget to apply them in your darkest hours. In basketball, and in greatness's name, we pray."

"Kevin Garnett's moment with Bill Russell"

"Too often today it is about self and self-accomplishment. On this night, it was about tradition, honor, and sharing the glory."

"The crucible of a true team"

"This is about a rare group of noteworthy professional athletes - unlike the Lakers star who makes winning and losing a solitary pursuit"

"And then a bunch of hooligans go and ruin everything"

"I'm ashamed to admit I'm from Massachusetts, for so long in my life a point of great pride."

I know how you feel, sort of...

Boston Police Ready For Anything

"It is sad when fans celebrate with violence at these events."

But it is O.K. to torture and invade places based on lies!!!!

And sadder still:
The Boston Globe Bothers Me

"
Struggles with police left a 22-year-old Massachusetts man in critical condition after he went into cardiac arrest while being detained.... Cuts on Andre W. Reed's left cheek and forehead still bled as he awaited arraignment yesterday. Reed said he was leaving a bar on Charles Street when police told him and his cousin, Thomas Bridwell, to turn around. When they did not, he said, the officers tackled and punched them."

Yeah, I'm ashamed I live here, too!
