June 11 (Bloomberg) -- U.S.-led forces killed three women, a child and an insurgent during a raid on a militant compound in eastern Afghanistan, the Combined Joint Task Force said today.
Coalition forces were searching a hideout in Mata Khan District for two militant leaders when they came under fire yesterday, the international force said in an e-mailed statement. Troops called in an air strike that killed a militant and a woman who was with him.
Insurgents then started firing on the soldiers from a barricaded room in the compound, it said.
"When coalition forces forcibly gained entry to the room three Afghan women and one boy were wounded,'' the statement said. Their injuries were treated at the site. Two of the women and the boy later died."
