The Future of Food

It always starts in the poor countries (or on poor people) before it spreads to the "developed" lands.

"Haitian PM ousted amid riots over food"

"by Reuters | April 13, 2008

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - Senators ousted Haiti's prime minister yesterday after more than a week of riots over food prices. A UN peacekeeper from Nigeria was shot to death in the Haitian capital amid tensions fueled by the riots.

I wonder where the U.N. peacekeepers on American streets will be from?

Haitian police said the peacekeeper died during gunfire near the main Catholic cathedral in downtown Port-au-Prince....

The quest for peace has been derailed in the past 10 days by riots over the rising cost of living.

The "quest" for peace?

Not only is the terminology disgusting, but so is the premise!

Whatever the UN is doing, it sure as hell ain't bringing peace!

The Senate vote was taken shortly after Préval and private sector leaders unveiled a plan to cut the cost of a sack of rice to $43 from $51. Three dollars of the price cut would be paid for by businesses and the rest by international donors....

How are international donors going to pay that when they are cutting back on aid?

Stone-throwing crowds began battling UN peacekeepers and Haitian police in the south of the country April 2, enraged at the soaring cost of staples.

The unrest spread last week to the capital."

Better start picking them up and saving them!!!

"Workers clash, protest low wages"

DHAKA - About 10,000 textile workers clashed with police yesterday near Bangladesh's capital during protests demanding better wages to meet higher food prices, police said. Dozens of people were injured outside Dhaka (AP)."

Yup, food prices are climbing everywhere.

I wonder why that is (see above post).
