Occupation Iraq: Walled Success

"The Surge or the Walls Gen. Betrayus?? Tell the Americans the Truth"

"As I watched and listened to every word General Patraeus and Ambassador Crocker and the various Senators told the American people today, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. What I can say however as an Arab watching the Iraq conflict from the Middle East and having access to Arabic Iraqi media (which Americans are deprived of due mostly to their limitations when it comes to languages), is that the American people are being lied to so shamelessly. I thought that Arab regimes were liars, but after what I’ve seen today, Arab leaders are amateurs near American leaders.

As for the famous "surge", there are 2 reasons it may seem successful:

Baghdad is a city of walls. People can hardly cross a street, visit a neighbor, take their child to school or complete any kind of errand. Iraqis can hardly move, much less fight their US occupiers. Iraqis live today in a huge prison of concrete walls which their American "liberators" have built for them. Iraqis have become like Palestinians, either unwanted refugees or marked "terrorists" or “militants” or “extremists” or prisoners on their own land which is occupied by a foreign entity.

US troops don't get out of the green zone. They stay put inside the green zone where they used to be safe... so that they can tell the American people that the death toll has decreased because the "surge" has been "successful". In reality US forces have been hiding in the green zone and have been paying Iraqis to go out and do the fighting for them... that is until the Iraqis told the Americans to bugger off. Because US forces are so weak, they took Israeli advice and transformed Baghdad into a huge prison with concrete walls... restricting everybody's movement, thus frustrating the Iraqis even more. This way, US forces didn't really need to be present in Baghdad (called the red zone) as often as before, face the insurgency and resistance... and die thereby spoiling the Bush administration “surge” statistics. Unfortunately (or fortunately) US troops can't even keep the tiny green zone secure and Iraqis found a way around their walls and came for the Americans right into their green safe-haven and even into their embassy.

Of course US/Zionist controlled media is well aware of everything I am saying, of the city of walls, of the green zone and the red zone… but all that remains well hidden from the American viewer and tax-payer. The “democratic” United States of America has imbedded reporters that deliver the news they are instructed to deliver.

In the first of Ghaith Abdul-Ahad's extraordinary series of films to mark the fifth anniversary of the Iraq war, he investigates the claims that the US military surge is bringing stability to Iraq. By travelling through the heart of Baghdad he exposes how, by enclosing the Sunni and Shia populations behind 12ft walls, the surge has left the city more divided and desperate than ever.
