Occupation Iraq: Sadr City Escalation

"Residents described the clashes on Friday night and Saturday morning as among the worst since Iraqi forces began an offensive into the area more than a week ago."

Where the hell is the damn MSM media??!!!!!!!!!

"U .S. and Iraq Kill 13 Rebels in Sadr City"

"BAGHDAD (Reuters) — American and Iraqi forces killed at least 13 militiamen in clashes and airstrikes early Saturday in the Sadr City section of Baghdad....

Gunfire was still audible.... Residents described the clashes on Friday night and Saturday morning as among the worst since Iraqi forces began an offensive into the area more than a week ago.

American jets and helicopters flew overhead Friday before midnight, and several of the aircraft fired missiles. Heavy gunfire erupted in several parts of the neighborhood....

As the fighting raged during the night, loudspeakers on mosques blared out speeches in support of the Mahdi Army. “We will not allow the Americans to enter the city, whatever happens, if we lose our lives and our sons,” they called out.

Translation: they are defending themselves!

A United States military statement said at least 13 gunmen were killed in one battle. Iraqi police said 17 people were wounded.

Who were they?

In northwestern Baghdad, an American soldier was killed by a bomb. Nearly two United States soldiers have died each day in April, the highest toll since September."

Gee, even the U.S. troops are an afterthought for the War Daily press today.

Can we officially say the surge has failed now?
