"A paramilitary commander who American intelligence officials say was involved in the 2005 bombing of London’s transit system and a foiled plot in 2006 to blow up commercial airliners flying over the Atlantic Ocean is believed to have died, American counterterrorism officials said Wednesday.
The commander, an Egyptian called Abu Ubaidah al-Masri, died last December of hepatitis in the tribal areas of Pakistan, one official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because intelligence matters were involved.
