"The sentencing hearing for the convicted terrorist, Jose Padilla, which was scheduled to begin today, was postponed until next month by the judge presiding over the case, court officials said. Judge Marcia Cooke of Federal District Court in Miami had planned several days of hearings to determine what sentences to impose on Mr. Padilla, 37, and two foreign-born men, who were convicted Aug. 16 of terrorism conspiracy charges. But Judge Cooke had to reschedule the start of the hearing for Jan. 7 because her brother died unexpectedly yesterday, the officials said (New York Times)."
