Memory Hole: The Conference Today

(Updated: Originally posted December 13, 2006)

Day two of the conference
:

TEHRAN, Dec. 12 — A two-day gathering of Holocaust deniers and white supremacists ended Tuesday with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad welcoming participants in his office and telling them Israel would not survive long.

Mr. Ahmadinejad, according to ISNA, a government-financed news agency:

The Zionist regime will disappear soon, the same way the Soviet Union disappeared. Thus, humanity will achieve freedom.”

That's an interesting point.

The Soviet Empire the ONLY ONE in HISTORY to disintegrate PEACEFULLY!

Is it possible Ahmadinejad merely talking about removing borders, making it all Palestine again, and not the "wipe them off the map," comment that always infers military destruction and is endlessly repeated in nearly every article on Iran!

He also suggested that the work of the government-sponsored conference — billed as a chance for “both sides” on the Holocaust to be heard — should continue with formation of a committee to determine whether the mass killings by Nazis of Jews and others really happened.

Mr. Ahmadinejad said the West had used the Holocaust as propaganda to dominate the Middle East.

Hey, he's not denying it happened, he's merely saying let's investigate it.

C'mon, German government! Let the researchers in!

Whether propaganda or not, Zionists have certainly exploited the issue for all it's worth.

Not denying it happened, because it did.

But that was 60 years ago now, much has happened since, and we need to address these issues post-haste, rather than gin up emotionalism (which is why I am an emotional "angry" blogger).

Despite the promises of open-mindedness, when one participant talked about the scholarship confirming the Holocaust, his views were quickly dismissed.

Gholamreza Vatandoust, an Iranian historian from Shiraz University:

Some facts about the Holocaust have been documented.”

Moshe Ayre Friedman from Austria, one of a few ultra-Orthodox rabbis at the conference:

I am not a denier of the Holocaust, but I think it is legitimate to cast doubt on some statistics.”

So make what you will of the whole issue; however, I am always amazed at which the speed of anti-Semitism charges fly at the face of of anyone who dare question the conduct and policies of the Zionist-controlled Israeli state, and the auspices under which it was conceived.

I've never forgotten my Lebanese friend.

More:

David Duke asserted today that Israel feared an inquiry into the Holocaust more than it did the prospect of Iranian nuclear weapons.

Mr. Ahmadinejad, Iran’s president, has frequently claimed that the Holocaust was a myth used to justify the occupation of Palestine, meaning the creation of the state of Israel.

Mr. Ahmadinejad
, at the conference, urging that a committee should investigate the Holocaust, said Western governments should not object to its work, according to the Iranian news agency ISNA:

The creation of the Zionist regime and turning the Holocaust into propaganda has become an instrument for the United States and Britain to dominate the Middle East. I believe that the roots of insecurity and injustice should be confronted.”

Mr. Duke, the former Ku Klux Klan leader, in an interview today, endorsed the need to investigate the Holocaust, which he considers to be a myth, and said he was at the conference to support further inquiry into the Holocaust:

I think Israel is more afraid of this conference than of Iran having nuclear weapons. They are afraid a taboo has been broken. The conference has been much more than we expected. There have been scholars from around the world and from major universities.”

Mr. Duke, in prepared remarks published by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, asserted that the gas chambers in which millions of Jews perished did not actually exist:

"[The depiction of Jews as] overwhelming victims of the Holocaust gave the moral high ground to the Allies as victors of the war, and allowed Jews to establish a state on the occupied land of Palestine.”

That is not asserting that the chambers didn't exist!

Just saying the event was misused for political purposes!

Among those attending the conference was Robert Faurisson, an academic from France, who said in his speech that the Holocaust was a myth. Mr. Duke invited conference participants to stand in honor of Mr. Faurisson and applaud him for standing up for his beliefs.

Bendikt Frings, a psychologist from Germany, said Monday that he had come to the conference to thank Mr. Ahmadinejad for initiating discussion on the subject. And Frederick Toben, from Australia, said Mr. Ahmadinejad had opened an issue “which is morally and intellectually crippling the Western society.”
