Pentagon Cites Poor Controls for Iraq Fund "A Pentagon audit of a $5.2 billion fund used to train and equip Iraqi security forces found that United States commanders used sloppy accounting and could not always show that equipment, services and construction were delivered properly, according to a report released Thursday.
The report, based on an auditor’s visit to Iraq from March to May, said the command’s ability to oversee management of the fund was diminished by high levels of violence."
But, but, but.... the surge?
Well, they say they are going to fix it:
"Efforts to Improve Contracting Operations"
The Army will establish a top-level command and hire 1,400 new acquisition personnel to improve its contracting operations, senior service officials said, a move that follows heavy criticism over the way supplies and equipment were bought for combat forces. At a Congressional hearing, Claude Bolton, the Army’s top acquisition executive, said the command would be led by a two-star general who would have two one-star deputies. It is expected to take two years to hire the additional 1,400 personnel — 400 military personnel and 1,000 civilians — and 5 to 10 years before they have gained the proper experience, Lt. Gen. Ross Thompson, Mr. Bolton’s deputy, told the Senate Armed Services readiness subcommittee (AP)."
So FIVE to TEN YEARS from now, the wars are planned to be going full-throttle still, huh?
This world is doomed then!
And America will have its wallet cleaned out a lot sooner!
