Well folks, it’s time to savor a victory. They happen far too infrequently, unfortunately.

Harry Reid has tabled the FISA debate until after the new year. Now, the debate is not over. The current FISA law sunsets in February, so you can bet there will be pressure to pass another one before then.

However, this turn of events is a clear victory. It means that Reid thinks filibusters are a pain in the ass. Which means that they are an effective tool. It also shows that Reid sees there are enough Senators are willing to stand with Dodd (Brown, Boxer, Kennedy, Feingold, Wyden) and effectively muck up the Senate process to make things difficult to move forward.

This victory means Dodd’s filibuster has weight. It also makes it much more likely that he will win round two as he continues to stand up for the Constitution and against telecom immunity. Here are Dodd’s closing remarks.

Thanks to all who contacted their Senators or showed their support for Dodd. We can win this fight.

(If you really want to show your thanks, donate to the Dodd campaign. If this kind of backbone doesn’t deserve monetary support, I don’t know what does.)
