Bush Wins Budget Battle

One picture says a thousand words!

The conversation:

Bush: "I won again, Harry."

Reid: "Yes, sir, I'll bend over now."

"Senate Adds $70 Billion for Wars in Spending Bill" by CARL HULSE

WASHINGTON — The Senate voted Tuesday night to approve a sweeping year-end budget package after adding $70 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The debate was part of a choreographed exercise intended to meet Mr. Bush’s demand for more war financing.

FOOLEYS!!!!!!

By an overwhelming 70-to-25 vote, senators moved to provide the money sought by President Bush. Mr. Bush had previously threatened to veto the overall spending measure if it did not include what he considered enough money for Iraq and Afghanistan

Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, who pushed for the added war financing, called for the $70 billion to be devoted to Iraq and Afghanistan, saying that troops were making progress there and that any uncertainty about the financing needed to be eliminated:

Even those of us who have disagreed on this war have always agreed on one thing: troops in the field will not be left without the resources they need.”

Sig Heil!

The bill fell within the spending limits set by the president and had ben stripped of many of the policy provisions opposed by the administration."

So ONCE AGAIN BUSH GETS EVERYTHING HE WANTS!

And AGAIN!

"House, 314-100, Passes Broad Energy Bill; Bush Plans to Sign It" by JOHN M. BRODER

WASHINGTON — Legislation that will slowly but significantly change the cars Americans drive, the fuel they burn, the way they light their homes and the price they pay for food cleared the House on Tuesday by a large margin. President Bush said he would sign it on Wednesday.

The bill, which passed on a bipartisan vote of 314 to 100, sets higher fuel economy standards for cars and light trucks for the first time in 22 years and requires the annual production of 36 billion gallons of renewable fuels by 2022, a fivefold increase from current ethanol production levels.

The measure, the Energy Independence and Security Act, also establishes new efficiency requirements for household appliances and government buildings, and aims to phase out the incandescent light bulb within the next decade.

This is all bad news, readers!

Speaker Nancy Pelosi told her House colleagues before the vote:

You are present at a moment of change, of real change.”

Booooooooooooo!

The WAR, ma'am, the WAR!!!!

Ms. Pelosi and other supporters of the bill did express disappointment that it does not require utilities to produce a growing share of electric power from renewable sources and that it was stripped of a package of subsidies for wind, solar, geothermal and other alternative energy sources that would have been paid for by billions of dollars in higher taxes on oil companies. Mr. Bush had threatened to veto a bill with those provisions, and the Senate eliminated them before passing the legislation last week.

Yeah, bent over for Bush again!

The Renewable Fuels Association, which represents distillers of alternative fuels and which lobbied vigorously for the bill, said that if the nation could meet the 36-billion-gallon annual production mandate by 2020, roughly one-sixth of projected gasoline consumption would be replaced.

Yeah, and we will all starve to death because of this!

James E. Press, Chrysler’s president, said he welcomed the new legislation and hoped it would remain the single national standard that auto companies must meet:

“Now we get some better clarity where the road goes and how steep the hill to climb is going to be, and we’re going to have fun,” said Mr. Press, formerly Toyota’s top executive for North America. “We’re committed to meeting these standards and doing our part.”

When the car companies are behind it, you know it is a globalist project!

"Bush signs bill boosting fuel standards" by H. Josef Hebert/Associated Press December 19, 2007

WASHINGTON --President Bush signed into law Wednesday legislation that will bring more fuel-efficient vehicles into auto showrooms and require wider use of ethanol, calling it "a major step" toward energy independence and easing global warming.

The legislation was signed by Bush at a ceremony at the Energy Department. Bush was flanked by Democrat and Republican members of Congress who had ushered the legislation through.

Flanking Bush were Senate Majority Harry Reid of Nevada and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
of California.

And how you gonna get stuck with energy taxes and efficiency inspectors, readers?

The bill also calls for improved energy efficiency of appliances such as refrigerators, freezers and dishwashers, and a 70 percent increase in the efficiency of light bulbs. The new lighting standards alone are projected to lower consumers' annual electricity bills by $13 billion in 2020, remove the need for 60 mid-size power plants and reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, the leading greenhouse gas, by 100 million tons a year, said the advocacy group Alliance to Save Energy.

The global alliances always promise, but they never deliver!

Democrats said the fuel economy requirements will save motorists $700 to $1,000 a year in fuel costs and reduce oil demand by 1.1 million barrels a day when the fuel-stingy vehicles are widely on the road."

Promises, promises!

Instead of burning the food, how about SOLAR POWER?
