"6 civilians on public transport bus killed in Somalia crossfire"

MOGADISHU, Somalia Aug 6 (Garowe Online) - Civilians in Somalia's chaotic capital, Mogadishu, continue to face unprecedented attacks and threats from two groups battling for dominance in the city.

Since January this year, Mogadishu residents who are well-tuned with violence and conflict have had to face new types of attacks, including sudden explosions and gunfights in the middle of the night.

The UN estimates that hundreds of thousands of civilians have fled the capital since February 1 as a result of the daily bombings and gun battles between Ethiopian troops supporting the weak interim government and insurgent fighters opposed to foreign troops.

Monday marks the third straight day of house-to-house searches in several Mogadishu neighborhoods. Despite the fact that authorities have seized tons of weapons and detained dozens of suspects, violent attacks on government and Ethiopian troops continue without break.

Two civilians were wounded when insurgents hurled grenades at police conducting searches in KPP neighborhood, residents said. No officer was hurt in the attack.

In the Gubta area, one civilian died and two others were wounded after Somali and Ethiopian soldiers opened fire following a hand grenade attack.

But the most frightening attack occurred this afternoon near the old past factory, which has been a base for Ethiopian forces since January.

A bus loaded with civilians unintentionally drove into a battle zone where insurgents attacked Ethiopian troops based at the old factory.

At least six people on the bus were killed in the crossfire and 12 others wounded, witnesses said.

"I saw a lot of blood dripping from the bus," said a witness describing the chaotic scene.

Insurgent fighters hurled hand grenades into the base. It was not clear if there were any casualties on the Ethiopian army side.

Mogadishu residents said bus drivers often use small gravel roads inside neighborhoods to transport passengers since most major roads are shut off by the army.

Today's Mogadishu is not much safer than Mogadishu in the pre-Islamic Courts era, residents said. On the contrary, many of the capital's residents maintain that it's more dangerous today than ever and often reminiscence about the Islamists' brief rule last year when peace reigned."

Yeah, they WANT BACK the Islamic's WE DEPOSED because they got rid of the RAPING, MURDERING, LOOTING WARLORDS the CIA was using to run the country!
