KABUL, Afghanistan, Aug. 15 — A roadside bomb killed three German police officers and wounded another on the outskirts of Kabul on Wednesday morning, German officials said. A Briton working for a private security firm was shot dead in Kabul in the afternoon.
The Germans, police trainers, were killed as they drove to a firing range, German officials said. Afghans who saw the attack said a powerful roadside bomb had destroyed the men’s vehicle.

“We heard a big explosion. When we rushed toward the scene, we saw pieces of human bodies.”
In eastern Afghanistan, American and Afghan military forces carried out an operation in the Tora Bora region against insurgents who American officials described as “Al Qaeda and other violent extremist fighters.”

[What NO Taliban dead? Body Counts? Civilians dead in the airstrikes?]
"US forces engage Taliban militants; Al Qaeda figures possibly in area" by Rahim Faiez/Associated Press August 16, 2007
BAGRAMI, Afghanistan -- Hundreds of US-led troops have launched an offensive... in an area of eastern Afghanistan... officials said yesterday.
The offensive involving ground troops and airstrikes in the Tora Bora region of eastern Nangarhar province is targeting "hundreds of foreign fighters."
A US official in Washington with knowledge of the operation said it had been "piggy-backed" on top of a previously planned action against extremists.
There were no immediate reports of casualties among militants or US and Afghan troops.
A bomb attack near the capital, meanwhile, killed three German police officers assigned to protect their country's embassy, and a British national was shot and killed in Kabul.
The explosion near the two-vehicle convoy, which was traveling about 6 miles southeast of Kabul, turned one of the vehicles onto its side and left it badly damaged.
Attackers in Kabul shot and killed a British man employed by a private security firm, according to the British Embassy and the firm.
Separately, U.S.-led coalition and Afghan troops clashed with militants in central Logar province on Tuesday, killing nine suspected militants.... No police or coalition troops were wounded in the clash.
[Oh, there they are. Nine "suspected" militants, huh?
