Leaping Back to Desert Peace: Angry Rabbit

Click, click, artwork....

"THE ANGRIEST BUNNY RABBIT IN THE WORLD"

"Should the truth be hidden from children? What do we say to a child whose father or brother were just brutally murdered by enemy troops? What do we say to a child whose best friend was just gunned down in a playground by those same troops?

Hamas Television deals with these questions through what they call ‘educational children’s television’…. using cartoon characters that are not as cuddly and lovable as the ones we might be used to in the West.

Their first character was a Mickey Mouse lookalike named Farfur… he didn’t last very long, he was beaten to death by Israeli troops…. ‘live’ on camera.

Then there was a Bumble Bee, Nahoul, who was very angry at the situation…. he too died because of the Israeli siege on Gaza…. he was not able to get to a hospital. The children watching these shows also get angry as their questions get answered… they realise that their suffering is a result of the occupation…

Nahoul was replaced on the show by Assud the Rabbit. Assud ’snuck’ into Gaza when the wall was knocked down a few weeks ago. He too is angry at the situation and carries a symbolic key with him to open the doors to Jerusalem.
The political message the show tries to give is that the occupation is evil…. and should be fought against. Would it be better to teach the acceptance of the situation? Would it be better to lie to the children about the situation?

In my
previous post I spoke about how the ending of the occupation would end the anger… would end the terrorism… Would that not be better than lying to the children? Don’t they have the right to know the truth? I think they do….. but I also believe that the truth can be changed…. when that happens the little Bunny can continue on the show as a truly cuddly character… just like our dear old ‘Bugs’….

Until that happens, here is the situation…. Click
HERE to see a video of the show in question."
