"Israel: Olmert Action Said to Be Delayed"
The police investigating corruption allegations against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert have postponed an announcement on whether to recommend an indictment until after a Middle East peace conference in the United States next week, Israel Radio said. The police had previously said they would make their recommendation public tomorrow, hours after Mr. Olmert is to leave for Washington. The radio quoted them as saying the delay was in response to requests by unidentified officials, on the ground that it was in Israel’s national interest. The police are investigating three cases against Mr. Olmert, who denies any wrongdoing (AP)."

"Israel: Army Officer Accused of Spying"
An Israeli Army psychiatrist who offered to sell military secrets to Iran, Russia and Hamas was charged with spying, the police said. Officials said that Maj. David Shamir, 45, a reserve officer, apparently was unsuccessful in attempts to pass information on Israel’s wartime evacuation and medical plans, although the police said that he did receive a reply from Iran’s Foreign Ministry. The indictment suggests that the ministry refused his offer, the British Broadcasting Corporation said. According to the indictment, Major Shamir wrote to Iranian consulates in Britain and Turkey and to a Gaza university, offering to “join the struggle” in exchange for cash. It said he also sought to join Russia’s successor to the K.G.B. (Reuters)."
