War Paper Crimes: Somalia

Because it's not in my War Dailies, that's why the designation:

"Violence in Somalia leaves two dead" by United Press International

MOGADISHU, Somalia, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Gunfire and a series of explosions in Somalia's capital of Mogadishu Wednesday have left at least two people dead and two wounded.

The Shabelle Media Network said a male civilian was shot to death Wednesday by two unidentified gunmen in Mogadishu, while an explosion from a grenade elsewhere in the city killed another civilian.

The blast, which also wounded two individuals, was one of five grenade explosions that took place within the capital city's limits on Wednesday.

Another explosion took place north of Mogadishu on Wednesday, the Shabelle Media Network reported, resulting in an undetermined amount of casualties.

Witnesses to the blast said that several government soldiers were killed when a roadside bomb detonated near a military truck just north of the capital.

The soldiers were part of an increased military presence in and around Mogadishu aimed at uncovering regional insurgents and their weaponry."

"Somalia: Two police killed, three wounded in land mine attack" August 16, 2007

A land mine exploded Thursday under a car from which Mogadishu's deputy police commissioner had just stepped, the official said. The commissioner said three of his guards were wounded, but a witness said two policemen also died.

Issa Gedi Ali said:

"A huge explosion occurred as the police vehicle ran over a land mine, then we ducked from the response fire of the police. I saw two dead police men and the wounds of three others."

Mogadishu's deputy police commissioner, Abdullahi Hassan Barise, said the mine exploded just after he had alighted a few meters (yards) away. He said three of his guards had been wounded but denied that anyone had been killed.

The explosion occurred in the Hurawaa neighborhood in northeastern Mogadishu, a stronghold for Islamic insurgents.... there are daily clashes between government troops and their Ethiopian allies and Islamic insurgents. The violence has claimed thousands of lives this year so far."

[Thousands of lives the MSM never really felt obliged to report to you, Amurkn shit-eater, as well as yesterday's events.]
