Memory Hole: Israel's Defiance

(Updated: Originally published November 8, 2006)

The Globe followed up on the murder of the Athamnah family.

The unfeeling, uncaring, hatred-filled Arabs tended their dead with
"Women collapsed in grief, a man hoisted his dead baby aloft, and tens of thousands of Palestinians... jammed a cemetery for the funeral of 18 civilians killed in an errant Israeli artillery attack."

Paying attention to the suffering?

And the press bias is apparent: It is NOT an "errant" fire because it happens TIME AFTER TIME AFTER TIME!!!

Meanwhile, over in Lebanon, Israel has taken it upon itself to serve ABOVE the U.N.

Want a lesson on straight power politics?

Just ask yourself how this situation could possibly occur, and then remind yourself that Israel exists because of the U.N.

How ungrateful!

"The French government demanded yesterday that Israel stop mock raids over Lebanon after French peacekeepers came within seconds of shooting at Israeli warplanes.

Israeli officials said the flights are needed to monitor Lebanese compliance with U.N. demands, and that they were working with the French-led UN peacekeeping force to avoid misunderstandings.

The incident incensed the French... the mock raids by warplanes over Beirut and other parts of Lebanon last week were Israel's strongest show of force since its 34-day war with Hezbollah guerillas that ended on Aug. 14.

The French Defense Ministry and Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy demanded yesterday that the flights stop. The foreign minister also summoned the Israeli ambassador to express 'serious concern' about the incident. The overflights undermine the position of UNIFIL, the UN peacekeeping force, said Nadim Shehadi at Chatham House, a London think tank. "It's a challenge to UNIFIL."

And yet, here we are, one year later, and NOTHING has CHANGED!!!
