Memory Hole: Today's Afghanistan Lies

(Updated: Originally published October 26, 2006)

What's changed in the last year, readers?

This puts the lie to the claims of "progress" in Afghanistan.

Keep that in mind as you read what happened a year ago.

"48 Taliban Die in New Wave of Fighting, NATO Says" by ABDUL WAHEED WAFA

KABUL, Afghanistan, Oct. 25 — A month after NATO forces claimed a major victory in fierce fighting in southern Afghanistan, large numbers of Taliban forces returned to the region Tuesday and battled NATO forces, NATO and Afghan officials said Wednesday.

A statement issued by NATO estimated that 48 Taliban fighters had died in the renewed clashes, in the Panjwai district outside of Kandahar, the main city in the south. Afghan officials said that as many as 30 Afghan civilians might have been killed in a NATO bombing. Neither figure could be independently confirmed.

[Yeah, the Talibans 'died." We didn't KILL them!

Zionist papers, folks!

Tired of the lies about "last gasps" and "clearing outs?"

All that is doing is continuing the cycle of violence to which we are subjecting an entirely innocent population.

Witness the "NATO bombing" that killed "30 Afgahn civilians."

Doesn't it make you PROUD, Amurkn?

Last month, Canadian and American troops said that they had killed as many as 500 Taliban fighters and that they had driven the group out of Panjwai in some of the toughest fighting yet in the Taliban resurgence in southern Afghanistan this year.

American and NATO officials plan to flood the area with assistance as a way to gain the loyalty of local residents and prevent the Taliban from returning. NATO commanders have said that if the Taliban was to gain control of the area, they could use it as a base to threaten nearby Kandahar.

NATO officials said 48 Taliban fighters had died in three separate clashes in Panjwai the day before. In the morning, Taliban fighters attacked a NATO base and Afghan National Army patrol near Sperwan, an area thought to have been cleared of Taliban. In two separate incidents that night, NATO forces fired artillery and called in airstrikes on groups of insurgents seen moving through the district.

Hajji Agha Lalai, a member of the Kandahar Provincial Council, said residents told an Afghan government delegation on Wednesday that more than 30 civilians had been killed in a NATO bombing of the village of Zangi Abad on Tuesday night. The victims reportedly included women and children, he said. The delegation was unable to reach the village because of the suspected presence of Taliban forces in the area.

[Right, Taliban prevented from seeing the carnage.

BULLSHIT! If anything, they would WANT WITNESSES to the crime.

And who would not? CUI BONO?

Who benefits from hiding the NATO carnage?]

Oh, I need not worry:

NATO officials promised to investigate the incident and said they had received “credible reports” of “a number of civilian casualties including women and children.”

I am TIRED of the LIP-SERVICE investigations of calculated and planned murder by these WAR CRIMINAL commanders!

Yup, still raking an area and a people that are COMPLETELY INNOCENT because they NEVER DID ANYTHING TO US!!
