Story Iraq: War Paper Crime

And remember, this is with about 35 people being reported killed per day -- by their own numbers -- although the real number of Iraqis killed per day is 300.

Your Iraqi death toll from yesterday, as reported by:

Boston Globe:

New York Times
: "An Electricity Ministry spokesman also said Tuesday that eight of the ministry’s engineers and technicians were kidnapped and killed on Monday in Baghdad, The Associated Press reported.

A member of the political bloc loyal to Moktada al-Sadr also accused the prime minister’s Dawa Party of focusing on Mr. Sadr’s followers in an investigation of violence between Shiite forces in Karbala that left at least 52 people dead during a recent Shiite pilgrimage.

A few hours later, the prime minister’s office issued a statement that said 46 detainees had been released by a committee overseeing the investigation:

The committee’s decision is the first step toward releasing those who were not found guilty of taking part in the unfortunate events. The committee will continue its work to examine the files of the rest of the detainees.”

I guess this why conventional wisdom -- along with fawning, misleading headlines -- is that the surge is working, huh, reader?
