BAQUBA, Iraq – I had just stepped out of a taxi in the center of the city on Tuesday when the sound of thunder rushed to my ears. I could tell that it was a large explosion and it was followed a short time later by another one. No one around me seemed to care.
Baquba is located in Diyala province, north of Baghdad, and it is one of the most dangerous places left in Iraq. Explosions are a normal occurrence here....
When I arrived at the front gate, there were military vehicles, angry soldiers and lots of noise.
Dozens of voices mixed together. I heard crying mothers, a child who was looking for his father.... It was a horrible scene inside the hospital. There was blood everywhere. Everybody was screaming: the wounded, the family of the wounded. Women were searching for their sons amongst the corpses. One of the women recognized her son from his deformed face and partially amputated hand.
“No god, that’s not his fate,” she said. “He is my only child. I told him ‘Don’t go to death. Leave the army. We don’t want anything from you. You are just about to marry.’” After that she fell unconscious.
Another person asked, “Where are my two brothers? I can’t find them. They were in the area of the explosion. God help me.”
An old man said, “God, we don’t want to live in the land of the dead and the free killing.”
There were dozens of other voices mourning the corpses of young men thrown on the ground and covered by white sheets. I started to cry.
I checked the hospital floors, which were crowded by people looking for a missing relative. I saw a number of wounded and spoke to them. They were stunned by the explosion. One of them was calling for his friend lying next to his bed, not knowing that his friend was already dead. Sometimes I try to hide my tears, but that broke my last boundary and I fell down sobbing.
I left the hospital carrying fresh, sad memories which will be added to the old ones. When anyone asks me if I’ve ever fallen in love before I would say yes, but the job of revealing the tragic truth of my people has stolen that love from me.--MORE--"
I blame George W. Bush and his god-damned lies!
