"Veterans Day doesn't pass without incident" November 13, 2007

IT IS an outrage that veterans, some of us combat veterans, were arrested on Veterans Day ("18 arrested in antiwar protest by veterans," City & Region, Nov. 12). We were peacefully, silently standing with gags in our mouths to protest our exclusion by the American Legion from speaking at the City Hall Plaza event, hardly "disturbing a lawful assembly."

The American Legion does not own Veterans Day; it is a day for all veterans.

Many claim the war for oil in Iraq is to protect American freedom of speech, yet the American Legion abrogates our freedom by not allowing a viewpoint opposed to theirs to be heard.

That was from a soldier who served, America!

THIS LETTER goes out to all our veterans who have served their country throughout the years. Thank you for your service, your patriotism, and above all, your bravery.

As I stood at City Hall Plaza on Sunday, I was extremely sad to see the lack of attendance to cheer on our veterans, the true heroes. Another point of contention: the lack of awareness that there was even a parade that day.

I live in downtown Boston, and only learned of the festivities as I was walking through Boston Common on my way home from church.

Why was this event not publicized so that the plaza was brimming with spectators?

And might I add that those who were protesting to end the war should have stayed home. This was not a place for them.

Hey, that's fine, as long as you leave me out of the fucking wars and draft, shitter!

Because that is not a place for me, murdering Arab and Muslim folk for no other reason than to serve Israel and secure oil!

Deal, shitter?
