"
Democrats snub Colbert" by the Associated Press/Bloomberg

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Comedian Stephen Colbert’s short-lived presidential campaign has collided with reality.

South Carolina Democrats refused yesterday to let him on the January primary ballot, and he didn’t file by yesterday's deadline for the Republican primary, after having hinted that the $35,000 fee might be a deterrent.

When Colbert announced his candidacy on his Comedy Central show last month, he said that he would run only in South Carolina, where he grew up, and that he planned to run as a Democrat and a Republican so he could lose twice. Colbert paid the $2,500 filing fee for the Democratic primary, but the party's executive council voted 13 to 3 to keep the host of "The Colbert Report" off the ballot.

"He's really trying to use South Carolina Democrats as suckers so he can further a comedy routine," said Waring Howe, a member of the executive council.

And his show is playing the country for suckers, the shamelessly self-promoting shit-spewer!

Did the Bushies get to him after the Press Club dinner?

Sure seems so!

"Carol Fowler, chairwoman of the state’s Democratic Party, said the party’s executive council determined that Mr. Colbert did not meet two basic requirements: that he be generally acknowledged as a viable nationwide candidate; and that he be actively campaigning for the state’s primary. The council voted 13 to 3 against certifying him.

Ms. Fowler said, adding that his check will be returned:

The council really agonized over this because they really like him, they love his show, and everyone thinks it’s wonderful that he cares about us.”

Mr. Colbert is the host of “The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central.

Awwww, they love his garbage show!

Supporters of Mr. Colbert’s candidacy have said it cast an amusing and revealing eye on the hype and folly of presidential politics and could have brought younger voters into the process.

They are already in!!! They -- like most of America -- wants Ron Paul!!

But it also drew critics, who said it was a self-promotional distraction that was draining news media time and attention away from a serious campaign.

Mr. Colbert could not be reached for comment (New York Times November 2, 2007)."

Good! He should shut up more often and let others talk!

Here is Steve getting taken to school again!
