Here are USrael's agents at work (the released "prisoners," right?):

"Hamas-Fatah clash leaves three dead...

GAZA CITY - A clash between Hamas security forces and members of a clan affiliated with the rival Fatah party left three people dead on Wednesday, a Hamas official said. Two of the dead were Hamas security officers and one was part of the Heles clan, a large Gaza group. More than a dozen people were wounded from both sides, a spokesman for the Hamas forces said. The violence erupted when clan members opened fire at the security forces, the spokesman said (AP)."

Here's the WB the Times gives me:

"Gaza: Israeli Soldier and Hamas Fighter Killed" by ISABEL KERSHNER

An Israeli soldier and a Palestinian gunman were killed during an army operation east of Khan Yunis in the south, Israeli military officials said. Hamas said that the dead militant was one of its fighters."

This report didn't even make it to the American papers (but it made it into the Times' International Herald Tribune)

"Israeli soldier, Hamas fighter killed in Gaza clashes" by Associated Press October 17, 2007

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip: Israeli troops killed a Hamas gunman early Wednesday and Palestinians shot dead an Israeli soldier, during fighting in southern Gaza, Palestinian and Israeli officials said.

The gunman was hit by tank fire near the town of Khan Younis during an Israeli military incursion, according to Dr. Moaiya Hassanain of Gaza's Health Ministry. Hamas, the Islamic group that rules Gaza, confirmed that one of its fighters had been killed.

Three other Palestinians were wounded, Hassanain said. It was not immediately clear if they were civilians or militants.

An Israeli army spokesman said a soldier was killed by Palestinians during the Khan Younis fighting but did not immediately give further details. Israeli Army Radio said the dead soldier was shot at close range by rifle fire.

The army said that during its operation "against terrorist infrastructure" Palestinians fired an anti-tank rocket at troops, and the Israelis returned fire, hitting several of the gunmen. It said one of its aircraft also fired at armed men in the area.

Palestinians said four people were wounded in the air strike.

The Israeli military regularly carries out operations inside Gaza to combat militants firing near-daily rocket barrages at Israeli towns. By mid-afternoon Wednesday, the operation was over, the military said, confirming witness accounts.

Israel pulled all of its troops and settlers out of Gaza in 2005."
