"Afghanistan: Battle Kills Militants and Civilians, Officials Say"
NATO and Afghan troops called in airstrikes during a battle against insurgents on Monday that left 20 suspected militants and several civilians dead in Wardak Province, just west of Kabul, officials said. The casualty figures varied widely. Afghan officials said 3 to 12 civilians were killed in the fighting. A NATO spokesman, Maj. Charles Anthony, said soldiers were investigating (AP, October 24, 2007)."
