"This case is a top priority for the US government" -- Cameron Munter, the American ambassador to Belgrade
"US seeks return of Serb accused of beating student" by Dusan Stojanovic, Associated Press | July 2, 2008
BELGRADE - The United States yesterday formally demanded the arrest and extradition of a Serbian basketball player who fled the US after being charged with severely beating a fellow college student.
The demand was made by Cameron Munter, the American ambassador to Belgrade, to the Serbian foreign ministry, the US Embassy and Serbian ministry officials said.
"This case is a top priority for the US government," Munter said in a statement.
The 6-foot-9-inch, 260-pound Kovacevic, who was recruited to play basketball for Binghamton University in upstate New York, was arrested after a May 4 fight at a downtown Binghamton bar that left student Bryan Steinhauer near death.
Steinhauer, 22, remains in critical condition and has not regained consciousness since the attack.
That's weird. The Boston cops did that to a kid and HE DIED!!!
New York congressmen have asked Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to pressure Serbia to immediately help locate the 20-year-old basketball player and return him to the United States or face possible sanctions.
US police said Kovacevic was at the bar with friends when Steinhauer danced with one of their girlfriends. Witnesses told police the men exchanged words before a fight ensued. Kovacevic is accused of repeatedly kicking Steinhauer in the head.
Oh, AT THE BAR, huh?
Well, SHUT THEM FUCKERS DOWN THEN!
They ain't doin' ANYONE any good!!!
"The case of Miladin Kovacevic, who is reported to have brutally beaten a fellow student half his size even after he was unconscious, and then fled the United States while awaiting trial, is shocking," Munter said in his statement.
"We are appalled at the behavior of the Serbian Consulate, which inappropriately issued an emergency travel document to Kovacevic after he was ordered to relinquish his passport and remain in the US by the presiding judge," Munter said.
This from a country that is holding people indefinitely, rendering them for torture and keeping them on floating prison ships?
I'm sorry, America, but I can't take American outrage seriously anymore.
How many have we KILLED with our LYING INVASIONS, huh?
