More Mass. $$$ to Movie Makers

It would be nice if we were not LOSING MONEY on the deal and SUBSIDIZING MOVIE STARS!!!

"
We're going into a recession, we've got an unbalanced budget, and we're flushing . . . millions of dollars away supporting a highly profitable industry"

What a SHIT STATE to live in!!!!

"Revised bill drops limit on filmmaking tax credits" by Megan Woolhouse, Globe Staff | July 17, 2008

A bill that offered $300 million in tax credits over five years to film industry executives looking to build in Massachusetts was rewritten this week to give even greater incentives.

Translation: MORE TAX BREAKS and GIVEAWAYS to Hollywood!!!!

But Massachusetts residents just keep taking it!

The legislation, drafted by state Representative Ronald Mariano, allows companies involved in the film industry to claim a 20 percent tax credit for construction in the state. Initially capped at $300 million, the limit was dropped by the House Ways and Means Committee earlier this week.

The proposal, if passed by the Legislature, would directly benefit projects in Weymouth and Plymouth.

You mean, the studio that disses veterans?

I really would prefer not to have their arrogant asses in state fucking up traffic.

To hell with their god-damn movies because they are TAKING MONEY OUT of our pockets!!!!

International Studio Group, which hopes to build a $300 million sound studio at the former South Weymouth Air Station, would receive $60 million yearly in tax credits, money company officials say they need to undertake the project. Those officials have undertaken a media blitz hoping to sway legislators to pass the bill, touting the jobs their studio would bring and drawing up plans for elaborate sound stages with Boston style architecture to appeal to Beacon Hill politicians.

I'm really TIRED of FALSE PROMISES!!!!

I REALLY, REALLY AM!!!!

Fuck you, Jewwood!!!!!!!

Mariano, a Quincy Democrat, said he thinks the incentives would boost the presence of the film industry in the state. "We want them to locate here," he said yesterday.

Not everyone is so sure that bigger tax credits are needed. Under the proposal, the state's executive office of Housing and Economic Development would certify film industry infrastructure projects for eligibility. Qualifying projects could include not only film studios and sound stages, but office buildings, parking lots, land, camera rental shops, and caterers.

Oh, so the STATE will PICK FAVORITES again, huh?

That hasn't worked out to well:

I mean, there is Wall Street, corporate and lottery favorites, golf courses, overpriced contracts to favored clients, primo tickets to the games, and WHAT ELSE?

The bill has been criticized by state Representative Steven D'Amico, a Democrat from Seekonk on the revenue committee. He called the tax credits "giveaways" and said they only bring the state closer to permanently subsidizing the film industry.

D'Amico said by phone yesterday:

"We're going into a recession, we've got an unbalanced budget, and we're flushing . . . millions of dollars away supporting a highly profitable industry. It's not a good deal for the state."

Which means YOU, taxpayers!! It is not a good deal for YOU!!!!

The state already offers tax incentives to the film industry in the form of a 25 percent tax credit enacted in 2006. Massachusetts also faces increasingly fierce competition from other states offering new, and sometimes bigger, incentives. This year Michigan raised its tax credit to 42 percent.

Michigan can fucking have them! It is COSTING US $$$$, so WTF?!

Seven major feature films have been shot in Massachusetts in the first half of 2008, and another two are scheduled for the second half, according to officials at the Massachusetts Film Office. In comparison, two were made in Massachusetts in 2006.

That's it?! So we got seven films instead of two? Good Christ!!!!!!!!

Another company that could benefit from more tax credits is Good News Holdings of California, which plans a large production facility in Plymouth. Founded by former Paramount Pictures executives, the new studio would produce movies and weekly television shows and lease space to other moviemakers.

The cost of the project was unavailable yesterday, but company officials have predicted it could create as many as 2,000 jobs. A company spokesman said yesterday that the project will move forward with or without the tax breaks.

That means the state would lose millions in revenue it would have otherwise received, D'Amico said, calling it "outrageous."

It's not like we have GOING CONCERNS here in Massachusetts!!!!

"Fires in Chelsea and Melrose stretch firefighting resources" by Ryan Kost, Globe Correspondent | July 17, 2008

CHELSEA - Two fires broke out within less than an hour in Chelsea and Melrose yesterday, gutting two multifamily houses and dividing firefighter assistance from surrounding communities.

Firefighters in Chelsea faced the same difficulties, with several firefighters struggling to contend with yesterday's hot weather and heat from the fire.

"Boston schools raise lunch prices to reduce fund gap; Move mirrors trend statewide" by James Vaznis, Globe Staff | July 17, 2008

The Boston public schools yesterday decided to increase its breakfast and lunch prices this fall by 25 cents, following the lead of many districts statewide that are battling escalating food costs.

School Superintendent Carol Johnson said that every dollar counts in this economy:

"Every dollar we spend over revenue received has to come out of academic programs. We all regret increasing lunch prices, but the price of food is going up."

Then PLEEZ tell the guverner to QUIT PISSING IT AWAY to FAT CAT CORPORATIONS, will ya?!?

School Committee Chairwoman Elizabeth Reilinger said she could not recall the last time the district increased meal prices and said the hike might be tough for some families.

But who cares? The governor and his elite friends won't be starving!

Johnson inherited a multimillion-dollar deficit in the overall school budget when she became school chief last year, and this coming school year is expected also to be difficult as revenue remains tight and costs rise.

You know, I'm really starting to dislike strongly this puke-shit governor we have in this state!

What a DISAPPOINTMENT he's turned out to be!!!
