Hanging On to Mandela

It's almost as if the forces that control the western MSM feel guilty about hel;ping place him in jail and call him a terrorist.

Either that, or -- more likely -- they are slapping themselves on the back for how great they are!!

NELSON MANDELA AT 90

"Mandela's hometown readies for his 90th birthday celebration" by Celean Jacobson, Associated Press | July 18, 2008

QUNU, South Africa - The antiapartheid icon planned to spend his 90th birthday today at home in the southeastern village of Qunu with his family, and the village is celebrating.

Mandela was imprisoned for nearly three decades for his fight against apartheid. He was released in 1990 to lead negotiations that ended decades of racist white rule, then was elected president in South Africa's first democratic elections in 1994.

He completed his term in 1999 and did not run again, but has continued to take a leading role in the fight against poverty, illiteracy and AIDS in Africa.

Mandela at first planned a quiet affair in his Xhosa homeland. But there are now a variety of events planned - a soccer festival, a pop concert and lunch for 500 politicians, veterans of the anti-apartheid struggle and other guests at his home tomorrow.

"Mandela, legacy celebrated on his 90th birthday

Where his name once resonated around the segregated black townships of apartheid South Africa, chanted by the rebellious youths who challenged white rule, it now seems to head a list of encounters with notables sought by rock stars and politicians."

I wonder how much of a carbon footprint these folks who just wanted to horn in on the scene left.
