Cops Keep Quiet

Especially when they murder people.

What, no taser?

"Officer shoots, kills motorist; Driver had eluded Yarmouth police" by James Vaznis and Eric Moskowitz, Globe Staff | July 28, 2008

YARMOUTH - A Yarmouth police officer shot dead a motorist early yesterday after a failed attempt to stop the vehicle and a brief car chase in a neighborhood.

The 90-second chase began on Harbor Road and continued around the corner onto Baxter Avenue, where neighbors heard a crash, followed by several gunshots. Police said the shooting occurred at about 1:10 a.m.

Baxter Avenue resident Sarah Dean said she was startled by the sound of a crash between the police cruiser and the driver's Lincoln.

"I heard a big smash, the car and a cruiser colliding," said Dean, 27, who watched the scene unfold from her bedroom window. "Then I heard three gunshots."

Dean said she also heard a woman scream from the car in which the victim, believed to be male, was shot. "The girl jumped out of the car screaming and crying," said Dean.

Yarmouth police revealed few details in a press release, saying only that a driver failed to stop when directed to do so on Harbor Road at about 1:09 a.m. The ensuing chase "resulted in an officer involved shooting," after which Yarmouth police and members of the Yarmouth Fire Department provided emergency first aid to the driver.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis but did not survive. Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe said in a brief phone interview he could provide no additional details yesterday.

"The matter is under investigation by the State Police detective unit assigned to my office, and they're conducting a number of interviews today," O'Keefe said, adding that the State Police Crime Lab and Crime Scene Services Section were involved.

O'Keefe said he could not confirm whether the driver's and officer's vehicles had collided. "I'm not going to get into any of the details at this early stage," he said. "I want the investigation to inform us a little bit more."

O'Keefe said his office might hold a press conference today. Several neighbors said they heard the crash and the shooting. One neighbor who did not want to be identified said she heard a male voice shout, "Get out of the car!" Then she heard four shots, she said.

Dean said the driver's car continued briefly on Baxter after the collision and shooting before stopping a few doors down. She said there were two other cruisers in the area at the time.

By midday yesterday, the victim's vehicle had been removed from the area, while a cruiser remained on the lawn at 41 Baxter Ave. Bright green cones demarcated the scene, where several local and state police investigators worked. Half a dozen police vehicles were parked nearby, including one from the State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section.

Investigators removed the cruiser and cones by late afternoon. Public details remained scarce.

"I really don't know much," said E. Suzanne McAuliffe, chairwoman of the Yarmouth Board of Selectmen, in a phone interview. She said she was briefed on the basics at about 8 a.m. by the town's police chief but did not know the name of the officer involved or other details.

Can you say cover-up, boys and girls?

Yeah, I knew you could!

It was the second fatal confrontation involving police in New England during the weekend. On Saturday evening, a 53-year-old man died and a New Hampshire state trooper was wounded in a shooting in Charlestown, N.H.

On Saturday evening in Charlestown, N.H., near Vermont, state and local police and the Western New Hampshire Special Operations Unit came to a residence with search and arrest warrants. There, they encountered Anthony Jarvis, 53, and determined that Jarvis was a felon and was armed, according to the New Hampshire attorney general's office.

Wouldn't the warrant have determined that?

WTF is with the shoddy journalism -- or the blatant fascism, then?

When Jarvis failed to follow orders to leave the residence, police entered. "Upon entering, shots were fired injuring a state trooper. Jarvis was subsequently found deceased," according to the release from Attorney General Kelly A. Ayotte.

Translation; The cops KICKED the DOOR IN!!!

The state trooper was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. No further information was released on the shooting itself, including how Jarvis died.

--MORE--"

Let's try and get some then (from the same paper):

"Man dies, trooper shot in clash, AG says

A 53-year-old man has died, and a New Hampshire state trooper has been shot after a confrontation in Charlestown, Attorney General Kelly Ayotte said. Ayotte said state and local police went to conduct a search warrant Saturday night at a house. While at the scene, they found Anthony Jarvis and determined he was a felon who had a weapon. Ayotte said Jarvis would not comply with police orders to leave, so the police entered. She said as they entered, shots were fired, injuring the trooper. Jarvis was found dead. The trooper was being treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening (AP)."

Something smells there: "shots" were fired, but this guy was "found" dead?
