Celtics Feed Hungry While Governor Feasts

Patrick Parties On While State Wastes More Taxpayer Money

"Shelter feasts on winnings from Patrick's NBA Finals bet" by Brian R. Ballou, Globe Staff | July 19, 2008

Toss some sweet California orange slices with handmade California blue cheese and California-grown pistachios and olives with a lot of shredded lettuce, and top with hugs, kisses, and handshakes to make "California Love Salad."

The salad, provided yesterday morning to more than 40 women at the Women's Lunch Place, a homeless shelter in downtown Boston, came compliments of "The Governator," who lost a friendly wager with Governor Deval Patrick over the NBA Finals. Patrick bet Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California the Celtics would beat the Lakers, and wagered 17 pounds of clam chowder from Legal Sea Foods against cases of sun-kissed assortments from the Golden State.

The outpouring of affection, bestowed upon Patrick yesterday morning, came from the staff and clients at the shelter. Patrick picked the nonprofit organization as the beneficiary of the bet, and yesterday the women welcomed him into the shelter's sweltering basement and thanked him for the lunch.

"You have the Boston Celtics to thank for all these good and healthy things," Patrick said yesterday, standing in front of a table displaying cans and packages of California-grown food.

Yup, because you CERTAINLY DON'T HAVE his WASTEFUL and PROFLIGATE GOVERNMENT to thank!!!

They are to busy RIPPING US OFF!!!!!

Sharon Reilly, the executive director of the shelter, said, "Governor Patrick, when you participated in the friendly wager with Governor Schwarzenegger, you made a fast break for the game of basketball. When you chose the Women's Lunch Place, you made a slam dunk for poor and homeless women, and not just women at the Women's Lunch Place, but poor and homeless women across the Commonwealth."

Maybe he could take some of the wasted millions and feed them instead.

I won't be waiting around for it, though, readers.
