Not apologizing for TELLING the TRUTH!!!!!

"Iraqi guards' identity mistaken by US Army"

"by Tina Susman, Los Angeles Times | February 18, 2008

BAGHDAD - The target was in the house. US forces made their move. But as they neared the building in a lush farming area south of Baghdad, gunmen emerged from the dark.

When the shooting ended, two US-allied civilian security guards were dead, along with a companion apparently linked to the security force.

The US Army said yesterday it appeared that the Iraqi guards had left their assigned checkpoint in the village of Jarf Sakhr and were mistaken for insurgents.

It is THEIR FUCKING COUNTRY!!!

It was the second case in a week of civilian guards being killed by US forces in the area, and the third such incident this month in Iraq, where the security corps' cooperation with US and Iraqi troops is key to maintaining recent security gains.

Since the latest shooting, some of the guards, who are known as Sons of Iraq or concerned local citizens, have abandoned their checkpoints to protest what they consider to be careless US behavior.

Surge "success" falling apart?

Colonel Tom James of the US Army's Fourth Brigade, Third Infantry Division, said the Friday shooting could have been avoided had the civilian guards followed rules outlined in contracts they signed with the military. Those rules include remaining at checkpoints and not taking offensive action, which could cause soldiers to mistake them for insurgents, he said.

It is THEIR FUCKING COUNTRY!!!!!

This is the "freedom?"

Move from your post and we will KILL YOU?

"We're very strict in our approach to the Sons of Iraq, what they can and cannot do, how they have to be in their positions and be static," he said. "A situation like this occurs because they are not following those particular rules."

Yeah, so OUR MURDER is THEIR FAULT!!

Fuck this god-damn, MASS-MURDERING GENOCIDE of an OCCUPATION!!!!

What with the number of Iraqis killed by the surge around 300 per day, 10,000 per month -- and 1.2 million Iraqis dead since the invasion, mainly due to the U.S. military's 75 air raids a day, and the five-fold increase in air bombings.

And the MSM just KEEPS on LYING, huh, readers?

But his description of the event Friday also underscored the difficulty of conducting missions in volatile regions with a mix of uniformed and nonuniformed forces that operate in close proximity but are unable to communicate with one another.

Yeah, yeah, yeah!

Sons of Iraq members, who are on the payroll of the US military, are not in direct contact with US forces and are not told beforehand of planned operations. That means if they see figures moving in the distance in the night, they have no way to know if they are friend or foe until the figures get close to their checkpoints.

With attacks on their checkpoints increasing dramatically since Osama bin Laden publicly condemned the volunteers in a December statement, leaders say they have reason to be edgy.

I'm really sick of the bullshit propaganda, readers.

See end of post.

"It's a very, very complex environment out there," said Navy Rear Admiral Gregory Smith, a military spokesman. He cited the close proximity of operations to some civilian checkpoints, the suspected infiltration by insurgents of some Sons of Iraq units, and the confusion that occurs when shots ring out in the dark.

Yeah, black-ops and cover stories can make it that way!

In some instances it turned out there were security guards shooting, he said. "What's unknown to us is precisely what they thought they were shooting at."

"Without appointing blame or suggesting that we're always in the right, we certainly conduct our operations to be as precise as we can," Smith said.

After the gun battle, the Americans continued toward the house, where they captured two suspected insurgents.

Only later did they learn that two of the dead were registered Sons of Iraq soldiers who had been approved for security work after passing US background checks, James said. The third was a friend of a sheik who oversees the Sons of Iraq program in the area."

Nevertheless, the propaganda march continues...

"Suicide Bomber Is Spotted and Shot, but Kills 3 in Baghdad" by MUDHAFER AL-HUSAINI and RICHARD A. OPPEL Jr.

BAGHDAD — It was Sunday, a busy day for shop owners in the bustling central Baghdad district of Karada, and Abbas Ali was tending to his morning routine when screams from people outside stopped him.

“Suicide bomber!” they yelled.

The 42-year-old electronics store owner peered outside and saw an Iraqi soldier draw a pistol on a young woman wearing a black robe. The woman raised her arms. “I have nothing on me,” she pleaded.

But she did: Mr. Ali saw wires protruding from her clothing. The soldier, hands shaking, fired two bullets at the woman as she began to run toward the shops. Then another shop owner shot the woman again with a Kalashnikov assault rifle that he said he keeps in his store for protection.

The young woman fell hard, Mr. Ali said, but “managed to press the detonation button with her last breath.”

The explosion, near the National Theater, killed three people and wounded eight, according to the Iraqi police. The death toll would have been greater if the Iraqi soldier had not screamed a warning, said Hamid Khalil, who has a tea shop on the same street.

“He was very brave, but hesitant a bit,” Mr. Khalil said.

Hours later, a parked minibus exploded Sunday evening in a Shiite neighborhood of eastern Baghdad, killing two people and wounding two others. No motive for the attack was apparent, an official at the Interior Ministry said Sunday night.

Attacks like those two remain common, but American military officials reported Sunday that across Iraq, the average daily number of attacks fell to 82 in January. That is down 60 percent from the high reached last June, the officials said.

Pfffffftt!

Deadly assaults on American troops continue, particularly in the northern Arab provinces, where Sunni Arab guerrillas have many strongholds.

In Diyala Province, two American soldiers were shot to death on Sunday, and another was wounded, according to the American military. No other information on their deaths was provided. They were the fourth and fifth American deaths in Diyala this month, and the 19th across the entire country, according to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count, an independent Web site that tracks military deaths.

In another deadly attack in the north, a car exploded in northern Mosul after Iraqi police officers were apparently lured close to the vehicle. As a policeman approached the car to inspect it, the bomb detonated, killing the policeman and a man and a woman nearby, the authorities in Mosul said. Two others were wounded.

Also on Sunday, the American military offered new details about a raid 120 miles north of Baghdad last week that left six people dead. Residents identified those killed as members of Awakening groups that have taken up arms against insurgents.

The military said that as forces arrived Wednesday night to try to capture a reputed leader of Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia, a homegrown Sunni extremist group that American intelligence agencies say is led by foreigners, two “armed terrorists” fired at them. Previously, the Iraqi police said the Awakening guards, who were killed by the American troops, had mistakenly fired on the Americans, believing they were militants preparing to attack.

According to the American military, the troops and American planes fired back, killing four men and two women. The Americans also arrested 15 “suspected terrorists,” but 12 have been released."

"
Suspected terrorists?"
