Memory Hole: Afghanistan Floods

(Updated: Originally published November 20, 2006)

Relief teams have just reached western Afghanistan
"where flash floods have killed at least 53 people and left dozens missing. Heavy rain lashed remote areas of Bagdis province... swamping many villages surrounded by mountains.... the floods claimed the lives of 47 people in Balamurghad district and six -- all children -- in neighboring Ghormach. In Balamurghad, at least 3,000 houses were damaged, and 2,000 sheep and other livestock were killed. The police chief appealed for aid, saying "these are very poor people."

Can't remember where I saw it, but must the Afghanis suffer so?

Haven't they put up with enough?

I can not fathom the depth of pain and misery that must encompass an Afghani's life.

What hardship!
What misery! What suffering!

Why, God, why?
