"
Lazard Says It Doubled Earnings in Quarter" by MICHAEL J. de la MERCED

Lazard, the investment bank run by Bruce Wasserstein, more than doubled its profits for the third quarter this year, buoyed by sharp gains in its fees for advising on deals.

The firm yesterday reported net income, assuming the full exchange of exchangeable interests, of $83.6 million.

Lazard’s asset management business reported $177.5 million in revenue, a 42 percent increase over the same time last year. The firm said that its average assets under management for the quarter was $138.7 billion, up 44 percent over the same time last year."

"Profit at MasterCard Jumps 63%" by the Associated Press

Third-quarter profit for MasterCard, the credit card processor, soared past Wall Street’s expectations, jumping 63 percent in a powerful reminder that many people around the world were still making money and finding ways to spend it.

Yeah, RICHERS!!!

How is that bowl of shittasting, Amurkn?

The results — helped by sharp increases in spending overseas and moderate growth in the United States — drove MasterCard shares up yesterday to an all-time high.

The company, based in Purchase, N.Y., said profit in the July-to-September period was $314 million. Revenue rose 20 percent to a record $1.08 billion."

Think of that next time the clerk swipes the card, readers!

Then smile, since you are making MC rich as they rape you!

Yup, YOU CHARGE while you are drowning in debt, Amurkn, while they CREDIT COMPANY CHA-CHINGS!!!!!!!!!

But the banks are just fine, huh?

A CUI BONO STENCH!

"Deutsche Bank Earnings Top Expectations"

The bank’s asset and wealth management pretax profit rose 45 percent, and its private and business client unit posted a 15 percent gain in pretax profit."

"More Jobs to Be Cut at Alcatel After Loss" by KEVIN J. O'BRIEN

Alcatel-Lucent, the troubled telecommunications equipment maker, said yesterday that it would cut 4,000 more jobs to reduce costs and announced the departure of its chief financial officer in the wake of its third consecutive quarterly loss.

The company also said it would reorganize its core business of selling equipment to network operators. The job cuts, equal to 5 percent of Alcatel-Lucent’s work force, come on top of 12,500 cuts already announced.

Price cuts by competitors, combined with restrained spending by United States telecommunications operators, are raising pressure on Alcatel-Lucent.

Technological advances also threaten to undermine Alcatel-Lucent’s position. Spending on wireless broadband networks and optical fiber-based systems is rising faster than investment in traditional copper-based, fixed-line DSL networks, where Alcatel-Lucent has been the market leader, according to Synergy.

The fucking DSL dish I just bought is already shit? WTF!!!!!!!!?????????

"Profit Slides 20% at Kraft"

CHICAGO, Oct. 31 (AP) — Kraft Foods said Wednesday that soaring dairy prices weighed down its third-quarter profit. Results were also affected by investments in new products, but the company posted better-than-expected revenue.

So you STILL MADE $$$$$$, right?

Kraft's products include Maxwell House coffee and Oscar Mayer deli meats. Revenue rose 10 percent, to $9.05 billion. Kraft has already raised prices on about 80 percent of its cheese products at least once this year.

The company blamed an Australian drought, a weakened American dollar that favors United States dairy exports, and increased use of powdered milk in other areas of the world for the rising dairy costs that are putting pressure on the packaged food industry."

So if their costs go up, YOU PAY, Amurkn! So WHEN do I GET PAYED?

That's why American's aren't home-shopping.

At least the more-expensive cheese binds my diarrhea runs!

"Profit Slips at Shopping Network’s Parent" by the Associated Press

IAC/InterActiveCorp, the Internet conglomerate controlled by Barry Diller, said yesterday that third-quarter profit fell 4.2 percent, but investors were reassured by signs that its key home shopping network business has begun to turn around.

Profit for the quarter that ended Sept. 30 fell to $71.8 million.

But they still MADE $$$$$, right!

But the business pages make it seem like a LOSS!!

Ticketmaster, a seller of tickets for concerts and sporting events, said revenue grew 13 percent as worldwide ticket sales rose 11 percent and revenue climbed 2 percent a ticket.

I haven't been to a show in years because of the rape!

The LendingTree mortgage referral business reported revenue dropped by 41 percent, and it posted an operating loss of $5.6 million, as it suffered in a languishing housing market.

Awww, too bad! I like their television commercials!

They make me laugh while I'm eating my shit dinner!

The media and advertising unit — which includes Ask.com, Citysearch and Evite — showed a 40 percent rise in revenue."

Oh, and about that housing market!

Just try to keep that home warm this year!

"Heating oil users face costly winter; Soaring fuel prices take ever-harsher toll in N.E." by Robert Gavin/Boston Globe November 1, 2007

As the price of crude oil approaches $100 a barrel, New Englanders are bracing for their most expensive winter ever.

But hey, the oil companies made RECORD BILLIONS in PROFITS each QUARTER!!!!!

That'll warm you up while your fingers and toes turn to icicles!

"Prices are crazy," said Patrick Melia, owner of Melia Fuel in Marshfield. "People are scared, and they should be."

Madeline Sanabria, a single mother of three, certainly is. Sanabria, 29, who makes just under $40,000 a year as a medical biller, said she hasn't turned on the heat yet in her Roslindale apartment, telling her children on chilly nights to throw another comforter on the bed. She has also stopped buying snack cakes and other treats for her children in anticipation of sharply higher winter heating bills.

"Do you choose food, or do you choose to be heated?" she said. "Just hearing the news about oil, you have to cut back."

And yet we have BILLIONS to SHOVEL AROUND the WORLD for WARS!!!!!!!!!!!!

As energy costs rise, consumers have less to spend on everything else, creating another headwind for an economy already slowed by the plunging housing market, said Alan Clayton-Matthews, a University of Massachusetts at Boston professor who studies the state economy. The full impact of higher heating oil prices will depend on the severity of the winter, he said, but the increase "will definitely affect consumer spending, particularly households with tight budgets."

Higher energy costs and a softer economy are cutting into sales at Papa Gino's, the Dedham restaurant chain, said Michael McManama, senior vice president for brand development.

"People have to make choices," McManama said, "and we believe they are eating out less."

John Larson, a self-employed carpenter, is among those staying home - and bundling up. He and his wife, Sheila, a Boston schoolteacher, own a three-story Italianate Victorian on Dorchester's Ashmont Hill, and their heating bills have become the stuff of nightmares as oil prices have climbed in recent years. When friends visit during the winter and complain about the cold, Larson said, he doesn't turn up the heat. He tells them to put on a sweater.

It is called a DROP in YOUR STANDARD of LIVING, Amurkn!

But the economy is great!!!!!

Rising heating oil prices gobbled any savings from improved energy efficiency.

"Just when you think oil can't go any higher, it breaks $90 a barrel," Larson said. "I'm terrified."

And it today it went EVEN HIGHER!

"
Oil Prices Soar Towards $100 Per Barrel"

Heating oil prices have climbed steadily in recent weeks, despite healthy inventories, mild temperatures, and shrinking demand.

It's called GOUGING!!!!!

The reason: record crude prices. Crude accounts for at least 60 percent of the cost of heating oil, and yesterday it surged by more than $4 a barrel during trading in New York to close at a record $94.53.

Supporting crude prices are strong global demand and tight supplies, said Mary Novak, energy economist at Global Insight, a Waltham forecasting firm. The world's thirst for oil is growing by 1.5 million barrels a day, up from 1 million last year, and oil producers can barely keep up.

There's not much more oil that can be brought to the market should war or disaster interrupt supplies. That has attracted hedge funds and other speculative investors that bid up crude at any hint of a supply disruption that could lead prices to spike.

So the hedge funds are BIDDING UP OIL and RAKING in the $$$$$$!!

Crude oil has been rising steadily since August, setting records almost daily in response to world events. Earlier this week, for example, it climbed $1.67 a barrel after Mexico said it would shut some off-shore production because of storms. Last week, tensions between Iraq and Turkey over Kurdish guerillas pushed crude past $90 for the first time. All told, economists said, speculation has probably boosted crude prices by $10 to $20 a barrel, adding about 40 cents to a gallon of heating oil.

"This is an investment-led rally, built on what if something happens," said Darin Newsom, senior analyst at DTN, a commodities research firm in Omaha. "I don't think we've topped out yet."

Is the fucking OIL BUSINESS ever a CRIMINAL FUCKING RACKET!!!!

New England's heating oil market is increasingly at the mercy of these global forces.

Pfffffttt!!

HEDGE-FUNDERS BIDDING UP the price and MAKING $$$$$ is
a GLOBAL FORCE, huh?

Many heating oil dealers have stopped offering season-long contracts at fixed prices because the market has become so volatile and unpredictable. Two years ago, the cost of heating with oil or natural gas, the two most popular fuels, was roughly the same; today, oil is so expensive that the cost difference between the two is the largest it has been since at least 1991.

Local fuel-oil dealers buy in the same markets as global hedge funds, lightly regulated investment vehicles that use complex strategies to boost returns for wealthy clients.

So it is BULLSHIT GAMES for the avarice of a few!

So they are CLEANING UP for their WEALTHY CLIENTS by bending YOU over the fucking barrel, Amurkns!!!!!

WAKE the FUCK UP!!!!!

Before hedge funds poured into energy markets, dealers say, they could reasonably forecast prices based on fundamentals like supply, demand, and weather. Then they would put together a mix of futures contracts, which guarantee prices several months in advance, and spot purchases to offer fixed rates to customers without risking their business.

Now, local dealers say that strategy is too risky.

"How do you explain hedge funds to Mrs. McCarthy?" Melia asked.

Who does anyway? The fucking MSM?!

How about REPORTING REAL NEWS once in a while, rather than this Zionist-sponsored GARBAGE!!!!!!!!

The poor, who spend a higher share of income on heating, will bear most of the pain
, economists said. Though prices have soared, federal fuel assistance has declined.

I HATE this fucking uncaring, inhuman government and it's shit society!!!!!

"The misery index is just going to rise," said John Drew, the nonprofit's executive vice president. "And it's only going to get worse as the winter gets colder."

Yup, LIFE only gonna get WORSE for you, Amurkn!

What, they gonna cut back the rations of shit?

Ellen Sdrollas of West Roxbury lives with her 17-year-old son on a $635-a-month disability check. Even with the new state money, they will likely receive less than $500 in fuel assistance for the winter. Last year, they suffered through a month of midwinter without heat, huddling around a gas oven while they scraped together money to fill the oil tank. Now, she despairs at how long they might go without heat this winter.

"I just don't know what to do," said Sdrollas, 51. "We barely eat already."

So what's YOUR CHOICE, Amurka?

Food or heat?

If you even have a home!

But not everybody is hurting

"Working-Class Enclave Hopes to Survive in Affluent District" by COREY KILGANNON
GREAT NECK, N.Y.

Since they were built 60 years ago as moderate-income housing for employees of the nearby United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, the Academy Gardens apartments have become more and more an anomaly in this affluent village.

The two-story apartment building on the main road that bisects this Long Island village is one of the last working-class pockets here, but that may change soon despite opposition from the mayor as well as its predominantly black and Hispanic residents. The owners recently filed an application with the village to demolish the building and replace it with a luxury structure with 68 condominiums.

“We have 28 families left here and we all do something in the community,” said Julia Shields, 64, president of the tenants’ association at the apartments. “Some work at North Shore Hospital or the Merchant Marine Academy, some for the Great Neck schools or the library, local nursing homes, and some as housekeepers in the area.”

Rent for the complex’s 40 units is stabilized by the state, which limits the annual increases and offers residents strong protections against eviction. Rents now range from about $700 to $2,000 a month for two- and three-bedroom apartments.

Since the present owners took over the complex in 1995, the grounds and apartments have been neglected, said Mrs. Shields, adding that 12 units have been vacated in the last few years and kept empty.

“They’re trying to make it miserable here, so we’ll leave,” said Mrs. Shields, who moved into her apartment in 1965 with her husband and raised a son and daughter. “The place used to be so well maintained, and now it looks like a project. They don’t cut the grass or pick up the Dumpster until the village fines them for it. We used to have a meeting room and an area to barbecue outdoors, but they shut them. And they pulled up our flowers and hedges.”

Fred Pollack, a lawyer who has long represented the tenants for no fee and is a councilman for the Town of North Hempstead, said, “I’ve been in and out of court for years with the owners, who have made constant attempts to get tenants out for bogus reasons.”

Susan Sahim, the managing agent for the complex, said the new owners have taken good care of the property and the tenants, and she accused Mrs. Shields of having “a political agenda.” Ms. Sahim refused to discuss details of the owners’ plan for demolition, but said it was a long-range proposal that presupposed the proper placement of tenants.

“We have a long way to go, and I have tenants to take care of,” she said. “I have to make sure we do 100 percent whatever we have to do to make sure they are comfortable.”

Paul J. Bloom, the lawyer who filed the plans for the owners’ project, did not return calls.

According to papers filed with the Great Neck Buildings Department, the owners plan to demolish the existing building and put up a three-story condominium building with 71,000 square feet of indoor space, and underground parking — in all, a $10.6 million project.

The site is on the northwest corner of Middle Neck Road and Steamboat Road, not too far from the neighborhood where F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife, Zelda, lived in the early 1920s that served as the model for West Egg in “The Great Gatsby.”

“They know it’s a prime property in a prime location, and they just want us out so they can make luxury apartments,” Mrs. Shields said. “The village owes it to these people to help them out so they’re not forced out of homes.”

Mayor Ralph J. Kreitzman said he would like to see the complex remain moderate-cost housing, adding that the scarcity of such housing forced the village to build units for its ambulance workers, firefighters and other employees.

“Even people who make a good living can’t afford to live here anymore, and we’re losing a very important work force,” Mayor Kreitzman said. “Those apartments house a lot of local workers, a lot of good citizens that have lived here for many years,” he said. “Many are not highly compensated people, and we’re very concerned. It’s not a simple process to relocate these people.”

However, he added, “If the owners comply with the law, they have the legal right to build there.”

Christopher Ducie, a district rent administrator for the Nassau County office of the State Division of Housing and Community Renewal, said the owners would have to go through a costly and lengthy process to vacate and demolish the building.

First, he said, they must secure a village building permit and then apply to the state, devise a plan for relocating the tenants and offer them stipends based on their current rent and the cost of local housing. Mr. Ducie added that the owners would have to show that comparable housing existed in the area, and pay the tenants’ moving costs as well as any difference in rent for the next six years.

In the meantime, Mayor Kreitzman said, he has notified the State Division of Housing and Community Renewal, which oversees rent-stabilized buildings, because “we already have a lack of affordable housing for our work force, and we want to make sure they afford these tenants every right they have under the law and that they are properly informed.”

Mr. Ducie said there were about 11,000 rent-regulated units in Nassau County now.

Ms. Sahim acknowledged the lack of moderate-income housing in the area, but said it was not the owners’ duty to fix that. “Why should we be punished for what is not provided by the village?” she said."

This country is a shithole... and it is only getting worse 'cause of the ruling stinkfucks!!!!
