Turnaround Jump Shot on Tourney

I know I complained about the new format earlier; however, I have completely turned around on it. It's six straight days of games with a marathon on Saturday, and the more the merrier.

What happened last night was I watched one game and part of another (maybe I should have stayed!) before leaving to play hoop myself. Didn't have the greatest game, and team got hammered a couple of times, but it was the best of both worlds. I've already decide to not play Wednesday as there is a quadruple header at the Cage that day, but will play inspired ball and never quit on Sunday morning following championship Saturday.

Meanwhile, outside the gym the world is on fire because of certain psychopathic leaders and ethnic tribes. Same story as always; they just have deadlier weapons in their hands. What isn't the same is the received propaganda and wisdom is no longer believed.

And the shot.... is good!

UPDATE (3/5): Left the gym on a high last night as I saw one of the most exciting high school basketball games I have ever seen. The game had everything. It was raining threes from way out, there was the ebb and flow of one team taking a lead, the other coming back to go ahead, back and forth, back and forth. What a great basketball game. The initial game of the night was also very entertaining, while one could only marvel at the brutal efficiency exhibited by their town's female squad. Four more games on tap tonight. It will be hard to top last night's finale, but we will see what they bring.

Time Out For Tourney

I wouldn't blame readership for being frustrated with this blog. I rarely ever post, I'm not here, then I'm back, now I'm gone again for it is that lone time of year that I'm surprised to see once again. Seems like years ago (it was) I thought life and this world would already be over.

So here we are again, another year of high-school tournament action for the next two weeks with the added bonus of the local branch of the state U likely making the NCAA tournament for the first time in 15 years. I'm having mixed feelings about the high-school ball because the state finally got its way and the field has expanded from three divisions to four. Apparently western Massachusetts finally relented to state pressure.

At first I thought great, more games, but then realized it upset the whole balance. For one thing, a whole chunk of central Mass. teams are now included, so what happened was what used to be a West-Central match-up in the state semis is now basically a Western Mass. championship game even thought the central teams played a totally different schedule. They are not happy, either, feeling they got screwed in the seedings and they probably did. Anyhow, that makes following the subsequent state finals less interesting to me, although it does mean an extra day of games out here.

Then I checked the schedules and it's looking like there is nowhere to go this Thursday. With the expanded fields and divisions many girl's games that would have been in-region are now much further away. I could go down to Northampton again, but I'm tired of going down there every year -- especially after Pittsfield was robbed by the officials in last years quarterfinal -- and then I got to thinking, inclusion of all those central teams means potentially taking a spot in the finals away from a deserving western school. Not too happy about that, and I'm sure some of the central teams are feeling the same way. But it is what it is.

So it looks like another month off from blogging here. Hope the world is still in one piece if I come back. Truth is I'm sick of saying the same things over and over and over, year after year after year. The psychopaths in charge of the planet need to do their ritual of self-destruction. The time for interventions has long passed, it's been eight years of screaming interventions with none listening. I do look forward to seeing them in hell so I can feast upon their innards, but that's a post for another time.

UPDATE (Feb. 28): Should have went to the game last night, but am going to one tonight.

UPDATE (Mar 1): Probably should have stayed home and listened on radio. Game was one of the worst officiated games I ever saw.  It wasn't just the confusion surrounding the shot, it was the inattentiveness they showed all night. I suppose referees can have an off night, too, but when it's the last game of careers for some kids and a state-sanctioned tournament.... anyhow, after those events I received a warning from police because my voice projects well and loud. I must say the policeman that came up to where I was sitting was very respectful. Told me he understood and didn't even flinch as I lightly grabbed him by the shoulders and issued my complaints and that the kids had worked so hard. Told me to calm down a bit and I told him he wouldn't be back up there. By then I was as deflated as the team.

Feel bad about everything now, and it was all put aside during the ride home. After the game is over and they leave, I leave it all on the court. I don't follow people or any of that. In fact, I'm one of the first ones to get out of the gym, win or lose. I've been on the other side before and -- literally -- feared for my life at a game years ago. I applauded a shoot clock violation in the wrong section, cheering my boys' good defense, and the crowd came down on me. I'm not exaggerating things; I really was worried about getting to the car that night. Nothing happened, and no one said a word, but the steps seemed like forever. Strange thing is I have cheered for their team before and after that incident. Part of the league.

 I suppose what bugs me the most is you can't even get fairness or justice at a high school basketball game. Maybe you never could, but given the rank rot and corruption across all institutions in AmeriKa these days one hope it wouldn't bleed down to this level. Remarked to my friend that we do a better job policing ourselves in pick-up. He made some incisive comments about how the officials never offered an explanation for the changed call, even if it was the right one. They left us all guessing, and that only added to the frustration.

There will be games every night next week and a slate of six on Saturday, but I don't know how many I will attend. Two are on nights I play basketball myself, and with the ending of my career in sight (next time could always be my last, but hopefully not, knock wood) I will likely choose to participate in an activity than spectate and observe. Maybe I should apply that philosophy to this blog.

Some have noted some interesting things but I don't think so, not with so many elites in attendance. For one thing, it is far too cold for it to be an effective drill and reinforcement of tyranny. For another, the ma$$ media has far too much money invested to see it turn into a terror event. Same thing with the Sochi scare. Al-CIA-Duh is not going to spoil the event because NBC and its advertisers have plowed way too much money into the thing to see a U.S. boycott or have it turned into a terror event (although it will cost host Russia some dollars in attendance). I don't even think a Munich is possible at this point given the one day nature of that strange story. The mind manipulating reinforcement has already been accomplished so enjoy the games, folks!

We Are The World, and as I write, we are preparing for another battle, the next in a month-long series of short, controlled skirmishes which will draw the attention of billions of people, although neither the individual skirmishes nor the series have any actual significance. Such is the power of modern marketing.

The imminent clash pits the huge and mighty USA -- which just recently admitted running overt and covert "clandestine operations" in at least 75 "sovereign" nations -- against the small and mostly impoverished African nation of Ghana. Despite the disparity in resources, USA is not considered a "prohibitive favorite". Such is the nature of modern football (which Americans insist on calling "soccer").

Recently, at a family gathering, one of the older women -- a mother of three boys, two of whom joined the Marines as teenagers -- was talking about the Vietnam-era anti-war demonstrators. Many people believe that the anti-war movement forced an end to the war. I wouldn't go quite that far, but at the very least the anti-war movement proved to me that some Americans still had functioning brains and hearts.

I don't see that very much anymore; the brains appear to have turned to mush, and the hearts to stone. I was hoping the old woman was about to say something of a similar nature, but instead, looking back on the protests, she said, "That was so difficult for the parents!"

Given the circumstances, there was little I could say. I certainly couldn't say what I was thinking: "The parents!? It was difficult for the parents?? How do you think it was for the children???"

First we had to throw off all the propaganda we'd been fed by our schools, by our parents, by the teevee and the radio, the movies and the newspapers and all the rest of our so-called "culture"; then we had to bring ourselves face-to-face with the fact that our government had made a policy of killing millions of innocent people, who had no means to harm us and no intention of doing so, for fun and profit. It was a repulsive revelation, especially in the midst of all the Disney-crap we'd been "brought up" on.

But even that wasn't enough, because having learned what we had learned, having taken the stands we had taken, we then had to endure the rejection of our parents: and we saw with our own eyes how the people who had brought us into this world, fed us and held us, taught us and loved us, turned against us when we brought to light the most vital truth of their lives, preferring the deadly fiction to which they were accustomed, and with which they were so much more comfortable. And now, "it was so difficult for the parents". Such is the power of modern American stupidity.

None of this makes any difference, of course, to the billions preparing to tune in to the match between USA and Ghana. Very few of the world's sporting fans seem to know or care whether Ghana is seen by USA as nothing but a tiny component of AFRICOM, which in itself is simply one cog in the Pentagon's plan to rule the world by force. I know people who will be standing and cheering and yelling "USA!! USA!!" all afternoon, but I cannot share -- or understand -- their sentiment.

I want to see the whole world screaming for Ghana. I want to see the whole world waking up and aligning itself against the USA, not only in world football but also -- much more significantly -- against the American plan to rule the world.

I want ordinary, "decent", "intelligent" Americans to see the unprovoked murder of even one innocent person as an intolerable outrage; then I want them to understand that their country has murdered millions upon millions of innocent people, not just at one time and in one place but repeatedly, all over the world, for decades. And I want them to realize that their chant of "USA!! USA!!" is -- for the rest of the world -- the most obscene of non-violent gestures.

Not that it matters in the slightest to anyone, but it breaks my heart to realize that the country of my birth is a serial mass murderer, and that even despite the horror that is USA, many of the allegedly most intelligent people I know, including elderly and supposedly wise members of my extended family, still support it, while seeing any prospect of facing the truth about it as "difficult for the parents".

I want the so-called "Family of Man" to take a stand. I want to hear millions and millions -- billions -- of voices, jeering and whistling every time an American player touches the ball. I want to hear billions of voices jeering and whistling every time an American president tells another outrageous lie, every time the American military launches another unprovoked attack against innocent people, every time ... every time ...

I know none of this will happen. But then again this is football, where everything is artificial and nothing matters. Surely a battered old man with a broken heart can have a dream now and then, can't he? Isn't that what the beautiful game is about?

Jews and Palestinians unite in basketball ‘peace league’

Scores of teenage boys Thursday - Israeli and Palestinian - helped kick off the second season of the Jerusalem Peace Basketball League, a joint initiative of the Jerusalem municipality and PeacePlayers International - Middle East. The league is comprised of six integrated teams of Arab and Jewish youth, who participate in the Twinned Basketball Clubs program, and four other teams from across Jerusalem and a West Bank town.

The league is actually in its second incarnation, according to Michael Cherubin, the organization’s operations manager and co-director of the league. The first, he explained Thursday, ran about six years before falling apart in the early days of the Al-Aqsa Intifada.

Cherubin noted that the involvement of Americans helped to bring this league to fruition in a city entrenched in the heart of the conflict. He said the Jerusalem municipality, which ran the first league, “thought it was a dead idea, but they were happy to financially support it as soon as they understood it was possible.”

The league draws from youth who have been playing basketball with PeacePlayers since 2006, practicing twice a week in their communities and twice a month with their twin club. “They were getting older and lacked a competitive league structure,” said Cherubin, who came from the U.S. after studying for a master’s degree in peace and conflict resolution at the American University.

Cherubin says the league works because the kids “have been playing together for years.” The neutral, American nature of the organization made it easier for Palestinians to not feel guilty about participating in such a league, he noted. After building the connections in recent years, Cherubin said, the league became an easy sell. “Instead of making a cold call to someone, I could say: ‘You know me, you trust me. We want to start this league. What do you think?’”

Cherubin feels lucky to have a hand in helping the youths strengthen their bonds, especially after the recent fighting.

Still, because of the sensitivity of the ongoing conflict, the names of individual players or even the neighborhoods are not widely publicized to preempt a possible backlash against the efforts of these brave children.

THE BREEDING OF THE SPEARS FAMILY MAY CONTINUE UNCHECKED: The National Enquirer reported last week that Jamie Lynn Spears may be pregnant again, only three months after giving birth to daughter Maddie.

The Enquirer quotes a "source" as saying the 17-year-old sister of Britney Spears said the father of the alleged new baby is the younger Spears' boyfriend Casey Aldridge, who also happened to father Maddie. The source (someday someone is going to name a child "Source" and we're all going to be in trouble) said Jamie-Lynn didn't believe she could get pregnant while breast-feeding. Which is funny, because she's not breast-feeding.

Well, OK, they say she is, but you never know with this family. "She is not pregnant," her rep assured OK! magazine on Wednesday.

OK, well, that's not very fun, then. We'll believe it when we see the pregnancy test ourselves.

SUDBURY - This is not the first time Lincoln-Sudbury students have gotten into trouble for drinking. Even the L-S parents gossiped throughout the week about the nickname "Drunken-Drugbury" from rival schools.

That's kind of funny!

Instead of boycotting the game, protesting, or trying to fight the system, the students, and particularly the senior class, took their licks and decided to use the increased media attention to their advantage. They sent Facebook and text messages to each other all week, reminding classmates and friends to attend the game, show school spirit, and be upbeat.

Yup, the kids ain't old enough to drink, but they ARE OLD ENOUGH to be sent to WAR!!!!

The school serves two of the state's most affluent communities. The final score: Lincoln-Sudbury 20, Hingham 3. The Warriors won, and in the eyes of the administration, parents, and students, so did Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.

Oh, well, they won the game -- that's the important thing!!!

Students at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School will have to bring a parent or guardian if they want to attend the school football team's game on Friday, a tough new policy enacted in reaction to widespread drinking at the last game that forced two students to go to the hospital and left seven suspended.

John M. Ritchie, superintendent and principal, said the new requirement that a parent accompany a student will hold students accountable, while at the same time sending a larger, public message that student drinking will not be tolerated. He said the requirement is for the next game until a long-term plan can be devised and said the decision was better than alternatives that included not allowing students to attend Friday's game at all.

The school dance after last Friday's game was canceled. Ritchie said the incident was an embarrassment to the high school. And while the staff typically has a good relationship with students, the incident reflected a deeper issue with teenage drinking, particularly in suburban communities.

You know what else is an embarrassment to the school system?

Ritchie said officials were worried that some students may have tried to drive home after drinking, if they had not been caught by school administrators. Ritchie's tough new policy was welcomed by students, parents, and school leaders who said it was an appropriate reaction.

That's because most marketers put clauses about injuries into contracts; so long as Brady suffered his in the line of duty, corporations are likely to understand, Schwab said.
